i noticed that as well. the cassette boombox seems to be standalone. i'm guessing that the house has very modern wiring and it could even be an architectural speaker. the small table lamp is plugged into a pretty clean and nifty outlet, and the cord behind the laptop may even be an ethernet cable connected to a downwards facing jack right under the windowsill. (it could also just be the cord of the black table lamp tho)
