so let me get this straight
human normally can't hear the cries of the dead spirits
only the first king is given that "power" to hear their cries as a punishment, pretty light punishment imo
problem is that the dead spirits still hold grudge to royal family, so they possessed all his descendants too
but their descendants can't hear their cries because the "power" isn't hereditary

problem is that spirits can normally see those lost souls clinging to the royal family
so, like a sane, intelligent being, they stay the fuck away from the royal family

...so how is all that related to wanting to ask for forgiveness from our fmc, again?
like, seriously, ask for forgiveness from those dead souls floating around you first, you dum-dum

@mage_goo

Getting close to those descendants made their curse flare out "So obviously they want to get close to her and apologize for the collateral hit...by causing another one'
It's retarded, as a letter or a proxy would workout better for everyone involved but they're still kids, so it is fine the older royal is irredeemable though.

Lmfao I’m glad so many people agree about the princes. Like bro...just stay tf away. They’re seriously grating on my nerves because of how little they seem to understand despite having the information literally told to them. He even witnessed how ill he was making Ellen. And they’re supposed to be heirs to the throne? Smh...even the king who wants to use spirits for his own gain understood better omg.

Anyway, who’s this new kiddo? Hope he isn’t an idiot like the royals.

I would LoL if the story become Illidan story copy paste. Like the royal family just want to do something good but they are too edgy to be understand. Well, i will be waiting until the king say his reason for wanting spirits power and then we the readers will said "Dude just talk normally and you will get what you wanted without looking like a villain"

@Elmithian yet they now do know the reason, they know it would hurt her, they saw her being hurt. While the curse only triggers at close proximity, it clearly hurts her in a much broader range. And a simple apology won't fix a 200 yo curse.
Maybe the heart is in the right place, unlike their father, but the head isn't. This whole part seems like a pathetic segway into somehow moving the story along. It's poor writing.

(following your example) But what your family is and what your family built comes from whatever your ancestor got when committing those crimes.
This isn't true at all. what my family is and what my family built comes from the hard work we did ourselves.
What happens if everything your ancestors built for you was through proper means, but they still commit crimes? Just because your family was built on crime doesn't make the descendants criminals. All the criminals of said criminals can do is live the best way they can. They're dead. We can look to the past so we don't make the same mistakes, but we shouldn't dwell on it. Since it won't help anyone or anything. It's too late to change anything, the best thing to do is to move forward.
The point is people shouldn't be judged by the actions of their ancestors but their actions today. Otherwise, it would cause a ton of unnecessary trouble.

You are a product of your family, good and bad. You can't just cherry-pick only the good parts. If you are in a good position because of "hard work" you have to accept any crimes commited in the name of the family, as well. It's not really fair, paying for what you didn't do. But it is just how society is built.

I agree but unfortunately based on what I seen in several mangas and anime, sins of the parents are inherited to the children in japanese culture. Being bullied, ostracized because a parent cheated. I remember in clannad the mc couldn’t find work because he was his fathers son.

Why couldn't we just get Ellen being just stupid and doing her own investigations, her mom probably didn't lie. This is a BS timeskip. It's not even chapter 20.

I disagree with you on that. No one is going to cherry-pick all the good parts. We just become different people as time(generations) goes on. I'm not going to accept the punishment for the crimes, but I'll acknowledge them and move on. Every child in this world deserves the right to pursue happiness. whether they achieve it or not is up to them. To me saying it is just how society is built is an excuse people use to justify doing wrong to someone.

@Fui-nee I don't think they never mention that. They said they need the power of the Queen of the Spirit, but never mention why they need it.

Hah.........even after that the Royal Family didn't learn their lesson.

@kilisloe man... I feel like I'm talking to Agielle.

Do you know the meaning of money laundering? man I feel like I'm talking to a child... following the previous example, the riches, properties, etc that the ancestor got from committing crimes can be used to build proper business but that still makes those proper business and whatever they produce something that came from a crime, even if the ancestor had proper things before, when the legal assets are mixed with the "illegal" assets, it becomes a crime. Of course if the descendants don't follow the criminal steps they aren't criminal, but they benefit from that, also if you check law, you can find that if traces of that "laundering" are found, then those assets can be confiscated by the state.
So going back to the example, yeah, maybe the descendants aren't criminals, but they grow up using assets that the ancestor got from a crime.

Taking it back to this series. Yes the present royal family didn't do anything, but what they have, what they are, comes from that ancestor that did those things, no one from that family till now tried to compensate, nor repent, and hid the truth, and they still desire to have that power. now this is an if. but if that royal family took a vow to desist of getting that power, maybe the spirits would help them to rid themselves from the curse, but the ones that known, doesn't want that.

So their realistic options are, they keep living with the curse, or they stop reproducing so their blood comes to an end. But that's not how stories work, so probably some shit is going to happen, that will force mc into doing things that she doesn't really need to do, but will do because plot, and everyone will be happy, the end.

I imagine it is for legitimacy reasons. Hard to argue your right to be ruler when you have the spirit goddess backing you.

@kaminomikan: So, let's say your great-great-grandfather stole the modern-day equivalent of a billion dollars. Since then, it was lost in a fire. Obviously, you are alive because of your great-great-grandfather, and no one in your family has literally destroyed themselves trying to return the billion dollars they don't have.

Why should you die for this crime?

@Twi Sins being inherited by the children happens in more than just Japanese culture. Unfortunately it happens everywhere in some shape or form even till this day. I remember parents telling their children not to hang out with this one kid because his dad went to jail.

I gotta say, the dynamic between the two princes and a former illegitimate daughter that's for all intents and purposes a muggle is catching my interest far more than the royal family drama so far.

It's not that the curse isn't interesting, but...it's not going anywhere. The royal family is being run by bastards, and the spirits are stubborn and hypocritical in various places.

I mean, good luck to Ellen on breaking this curse, and I believe in assigning sins to an individual and only that individual's actions. But yeah.
