@mahtan Many things can be understood as rules without ever having been codified. The only difference is that someone who breaks unwritten rules is not a lawbreaker, and can often avoid serious repercussions with the excuse of "it wasn't written down anywhere".
Sometimes ignoring unwritten rules can be good, sometimes it might be bad or neutral.

Either way, the idea that there should be rules for knights about treating a woman well are probably based in the ideals of courtly love https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Courtly_love

Well... It is given in one of their codes, ‘Protect the honor of women’. It’s true they are not obligated to treat woman differently, but it is polite and ethical.

@mahtan This is a medieval setting. Men were expected to treat women differently back then, especially those in the noble class. It was right that Gladys reminded them of that. Don't pull bullshit modern beliefs into a story with historical setting.
