Its harder to understand why he abandoned his daughter.
I haven't seen anyone point this out yet, but when comparing how Hizumi takes in both of her parents bringing up their concerns about the other parent, Hizumi kinda shuts down her dad a lot, and is quick to agree with her mom.

I'm not saying she is responsible, but I'd imagine this dismissal is another drop in the bucket for him. A subtle enabler of her mother.

"Power corrupts." This saying is true. Power gives people the opportunity to do things they wanted to do but couldn't have done when they were powerless, in this case, the scumbag father. He leeched off his daughter and discarded her when it was convenient

This manga's storytelling is great especially with the butterfly analogy
