I disagree, I've seen plenty of shippers butcher the narrative of a story to chase all the "subtextual" (read: invented, misread, or way over-exaggerated) clues that their OTP is secretly hiding in the story, it's just that the author or the publisher are too timid to embrace it over the safe, predictable option. These are the weirdos that live on AO3 or FF.net and almost never engage with the canon story, just their fanfiction versions where they can "fix" things by making sure that their "obviously correct" interpretation bares out.

From what I've heard, in the older western fujoshi community (like say older enough to be a Vtuber lol), traditionally they believed order didn't matter as much.

Eh, from what I remember having been in HP fandom way back, while slash fandoms didn't really have wars about who tops or bottoms, for the most part that had to do w/ overwhelming fanon consensus on like X character being a top. It was definitely just as hard to find a verse couple in slashfic as in bl.
