I honestly don't understand how so many people on the official site are excited about this chapter. The action scenes are great, but what Tatsu is doing to Momo and Okarun's romance is just ridiculous. Ever since Momo lost her memories, she seems to trust and grow close to other people incredibly easily, while treating Okarun with completely disproportionate hostility. Before her memory loss, she was affectionate, trusted him, and constantly showed how much she loved him. Now, somehow, he's the one who has to overcome every possible barrier just to get close to her. And as if other girls kissing Okarun, the whole situation with Jiji and Momo sleeping together, this whole amusement park date, and a love confession that still hasn't received a satisfying resolution weren't enough, now we have Okarun physically attacking Momo. And before anyone comes at me saying he's in a frenzy and doesn't know who he's attacking, I FREAKING KNOW THAT! THAT'S NOT THE POINT!!!
The problem isn't Okarun's intentions. It's the AUTHOR'S decision to write this bullshit in the first place. We've already had Jiji choking and attacking Momo while under the Evil Eye's influence, something that pissed off a huge part of the fandom later on. Even so, she showed understanding toward him. And now the author decides to put Okarun, THE ONE CHARACTER WHO SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN PUT IN THIS POSITION, through something similar, while Momo reacts to him with nothing but contempt and hatred. And what happens when Okarun regains consciousness and realizes he hurt the girl he loves? What are the consequences going to be? More guilt, suffering, and distance between them? Another few dozen chapters just to overcome yet another obstacle the author deliberately created? And what about us readers?
Seriously, Tatsu seems to be competing with himself to see how many increasingly absurd ways he can come up with to keep these two apart. Their romance used to be one of the best parts of Dandadan, atleast for me, but now every step forward seems to exist only to set up the next disaster. I'll read the next chapter just to see what miraculous and insane solution he comes up with to get around this entire mess, which will probably not happen. But aside from the action, this chapter has pretty much cemented my disappointment in the way he writes romance.
And to think Tatsu read 100 shoujo manga to learn how to write romance, only to seemingly pick up every single frustrating trope readers are sick of and cram them all into the same relationship. And what the fuck is his editor doing while all this nonsense keeps piling up? If you don't want to develop your protagonists' relationship, then don't spend 250 chapters building up a romance just to repeatedly tear it apart. There's a difference between creating meaningful romantic tension and endlessly recycling jealousy, misunderstandings, and increasingly ridiculous obstacles just to keep two characters apart... Sure, cool.
