The second one is about how I was mostly thrown off not by her jumping him, but by him getting dominated and flustered by a 14yo to the point of taking it for "TENS of minutes".

If he is from our world, the consistency in his expectations and treatment just isn't adding up in this scene. He is clearly able to ward off fully developed women. (See chapter 1 image below).

He knows.
See, the thing is, he has defenses against aggressive women his own age or older. He's at least able to put up a mental and physical wall in this instance. He still has the mindset that, as a guy, he can easily overpower a smaller woman, and young girls aren't sexually active or forward-thinking enough to be a threat to his virginity, independence, or future. Given this universe, it's presumed that this woman could have physically overpowered him, but like aggressive men in his original world, this woman runs the risk of extreme consequences for breaking laws against molestation, and in such a public and visible location. So Masato is able to hold off long enough for Koumi to come in and rescue him. It's literally the gender swapped trope of the NTR-meatheads hitting on the pretty FMC, and the MC coming in to rescue her at just the right time.

By contrast, because of her age and how he views her, Masato has no mental or physical walls set up against Yuka. He still views her as a child / little sister, so he's not prepared to rebuff any advances she makes. Which is literally what happens in this chapter. Yuka makes a move, catches Masato completely off guard, and he's now at her mercy and forced to accept that every woman in this world is capable of taking advantage of him. And this will be repeatedly pounded into his mind over the course of the next few developments. Yuka definitely made the first move, but from here on out, not only is he more aware of his situation, but the other girls actually start being more proactive in expressing their desire. Yuka just moved first.

In a way, it makes sense. Out of all the girls, Yuka recognized that she would not be viewed as desirable given their ages and relationship, so she moved to change that. For Koumi, she doesn't want to turn him off, but her desire to be with him eventually overpowers that, especially as she's noticed other women who are interested in Masato and also close to him. For Mizuho, her relationship with Koumi has been holding her back, but she can't hold out anymore as well (especially after she realizes that Masato is her "destined person"). For Seira, now that she's built up some confidence in herself, she also becomes a lot more forward, and she knows she has the wallet to support her claims, unlike all of the other girls. And as for Shiori, the resident NTR-queen, even she realizes that, even if she gets excited by Masato being dominated by other women, she still wants to be with him and makes this known.

I'm caught up in the WN, which hasn't been translated (or maybe even updated?) as of late due to the LN, so I don't actually know the most recent developments after Masato gives the girls an ultimatum that he'll face their feelings and give them an answer. But like many have speculated, I imagine it'll be along the lines of the polygamy route that was mentioned since the first chapter. He'll end up being a kept man in this world, with these five girls all vying for his attention.

Also, I'm really looking forward to when all five of these girls are aware of each other. From what I've read, Koumi and Mizuho definitely know about each other (since they're trying to claim Masato as a team). But Koumi is also aware of Shiroi, who in turn knows about Koumi. And Mizuho and Seira are both aware of each other as well. I don't know if Koumi and Mizuho have shared that information between each other, though. And finally, Shiroi is aware of Yuka, but as far as I know, Yuka does not know about any of the other girls. So I've been chomping at the bit to see more direct confrontations between all of these girls. Especially if it happens with Masato present, as all of these connections have been made with him being totally unaware... well, except that both Koumi and Mizuho stated their affection together, so he knows both girls love him and are aware of each other. Still, I want to see when the others are in the mix, particularly Seira.

Wow you responded to my edit, I didn't expect that. Thank you.

Actually I am really happy with this development. I've long awaited the author to show the weight of this 1:5 ratio difference.

In my edit, I was doing two things:
  1. Playing ships
  2. surprised at what fully transpired

The first part is me being silly while also being confused about his relationship with the first girl.

And yes. I can't wait. This was the main hook for me, which is why I mostly have cheered on Seira (I assure you it has nothing to do with my yandere bias.... errr... perhaps).

She is the only one that has been close to playing her role in this world-building.
Except that in your example from the first chapter, the only reason he actually gets away from that woman was Koumi showing up and dragging him away from her--which happens on the very next page.

Plus his rejections of her were also still passive. He says he rejects her multiple times, but the only thing he says aloud is "I-I'm really in a hurry...!" which, while I'm admittedly extrapolating, isn't the same thing as an overt, direct telling-off of disinterest in someone.

Also--that's not one of the five heroines. The moment he has any extensive time around someone, we see that passive behavior of his kick in and the results are that all five of the heroines fall for him. The very fact that he considers them all friends to some degree, while they clearly all feel something more, reinforces that his awareness of his behavior is a problem.

You being silly is whatever, but there's also been lot of people in this thread acting surprised and outraged that "consequences and consistent foreshadowing" are suddenly catching them unawares. So forgive me if I took your edit at face value and not as the tongue-in-cheek statements you intended them to be.

I think it's wild how some people are acting blindsided by this. She has been around since the beginning and has had 3 chapters in a row all about how she's falling deeper in love. You kept reading because you wanted to see this! Your moral high horse does not hide the real JC lover inside you!
I think the only ones blindsided by this are the tourists browsing the newly updated section and binging the past year of chapters. Like, there's also an elementary schooler that he's tutoring in the running, so these cunnysseurs are just upset Yuka stole first place from their waifu XD

Shiori is a second year in high school, actually. Yuka is the youngest by a pretty wide margin. Shiori is roughly 4 years older than her.

I didn't expect that kiss. I'll be surprised if he's still dense after this.

She's literally pinning his arms down, bro. If you want to criticize anyone, you're better off criticizing the author.
Criticizing the author is obvious. If I complain about something, yes, I am complaining about the author making that decision.

But it's not like he can't roll over or move his face away from her. Are you telling me there's NOTHING he can do to stop this? It's not like he's fighting it, he's just letting it happen. He isn't even asking her to stop, or wait. He's in college and she's in middle school. Are we going to shrug off that he has a choice and he his choice was to let it happen? It's not like he's against a yandere or a violent person. This girls is the most sane out of all, I am sure he can say something after the first kiss, that will make her feel good and not ignore her feelings. The author really wanted to make this happen with the whole pinning down and making it look that there was nothing he could do.

Does no one agree that what is happening is wrong?

P.S. I want to point out that given the status of women in this world, what the girl is doing is pretty awful. But then again, he's an adult, so most of the responsibility falls on him.

On the one hand, I want to make a joke about victim blaming. On the other hand, you're absolutely correct. I made a comment as early as chapter 3 after having read the WN that Masato makes absolutely no attempt to push back against Yuka's advances. I don't want to spoil any future events, but suffice it to say he is not a victim. He's a person who knowingly puts himself in situations that have a very obvious outcome, and expresses very little in the way of actual discomfort with the results beyond "Woe is me, this incredibly erotic JC forced me to see her as a woman and turned me into a lolicon!"

Personally I'm here for it, because I love degenerate shit and taboo romance in my fiction. But it is extremely difficult to frame Masato as a victim of anything other than his own cripplingly irresponsible behavior—and that's the most charitable reading of events to come. The more realistic reading is "This motherfucker wants this, he's just rationalizing that he doesn't because he knows it's wrong."

FYI Yuka is my favorite character, so I'm not complaining about any of this. But there's no denying that it's what's written. Masato is a willing participant in Yuka's "romantic" endeavors toward him. That's simply a fact.

Damn I don't pay attention, welp, re-read.

edit: god wow yeah, second-year high school, plainly in text lol. I just saw the quiet plain book girl and somehow catalogued her as a primary schooler XD

Seeing tourists shitting and pissing their pants and got filtered always warms my heart ❤️
I've been waiting 18 months to see this happen. It's marvelous.

You should read the LN! I linked it earlier in the thread. The fan translation is really good.

I'm not convinced the story itself is saying it's not wrong.

It's just a thing that is happening, but even then, the context of the universe/setting and the events leading up to this chapter give the tone that Masato is being assaulted by Yuka in this moment.

Others have pointed it out, and the manga has apparently refrained from mentioning it before now--but in this universe, women are on the whole stronger than men; it very much is a reversal of "our/Masato's world". Plus, Yuka exploited Masato's injury on top of that to put him at additional disadvantage.

Really, this happened at the end of the chapter because it's a shocking cliffhanger event signalling a change in the story's tone and trajectory. This isn't being played for laughs, or to be cute. People reacting to it negatively aren't incorrect to do so, but I'd argue they are missing the intention of this event for the story at large, and letting the optics of Yuka being so much younger color their interpretation of what's happening.

Nothing in the chapter that we have, at face value, is celebrating this. Readers are reacting--cracking jokes, getting outraged, and so on, but at a certain point that's the audience creating a feedback loop on itself, and has less to do with the narrative unfolding in the manga.

But this didn't happen in a vacuum; it's been laid out as early as chapter 3 that Yuka was head over heels for Masato, and that she felt she had to do something drastic because she watched her friends and even adults around her show active interest in Masato--who, as we saw in this chapter, treats her like a little sister.

This setting pushes all women to the extreme in order to secure a partner. That's been established, and we've seen each heroine's behavior reflect that reality in various ways. Yuka wouldn't be immune to that social pressure.

Now, yes--there's an argument that criticism can be leveled at the meta-level upon the author, for choosing to include a middle schooler among the heroines in the first place. I could see an argument in it showing the true gamut of issues with this ratio'd world, that even children are subjected to the exacerbating effects of the lack of available male partners, but it's a subjective call, and one that will leave the audience divided depending on their individual predilections and values.

But it is also through the context of Masato's actions and his behavior and how both affect the heroines, coupled with his ongoing obliviousness to what he's putting them through. And in that sense, this was more or less inevitable.

Again--not saying it's a good thing, and again, I also maintain that the story itself isn't lauding this event.

It's clear the average reader here isn't looking to meaningfully engage with the story without bias one way or the other, though, and tilting at them is sadly not going to lead anywhere productive, as the majority of this comment section indicates.

I was wondering why this has so many comments, then I read the chapter. Damn, she really changed everything didn’t she? The manga isn’t gonna be so innocent anymore.

I abhor brevity.
Some say brevity is the soul of wit. That may have been true—once upon a time. Personally, I would rather make my point as clearly as possible, such that there's no room room for misinterpretation, even if I have to be long-winded to do it. The more concise you try to be on the internet, the more room you leave for people (read: idiots) to misrepresent whatever it is you're saying. Brevity is only useful when you're writing something that will be read by people who are functionally literate. As proven by this chapter, there are a whole lot of people reading this manga who do not fall within that category.
