I don't think he gave up on his future brother-in-law being his future brother-in-law. I think he knows that Himari and Yuu are meant for each other and that the urgency of Himari's teen passion is undermining that future. If she gets it together and stays by his side, they'll inevitably wind up together.

Like, he's giving some actual grown-ass good advice in asking "Do you want to wind up with the person you love, or do you want to feel like you've 'won' this fight you're having? Because the way you're going about it right now, it can't be both. And it's that romantic love of yours that's making you that way."
