It's not that they were worried about the pickup artist, it's an instinctive response when a guy sees another guy get hit there. I think it's like the brain is saying "hey, that hurts way more than it looks, and feels kind of like this, so be sure to avoid it".
Also, the guys were mainly just being a bit creepy and just assumed the MC would have said "no" if not interested. That's morally wrong for not getting explicit consent, but not really rape by any stretch of the imagination. Especially with how he casually extended the offer to the others, he clearly didn't think he was forcing her to do anything.
