There is something called morality that carries more weight than the law in many countries.
Morality? What a flimsy thing to expect anyone to care about. Morality changes about as easily as the wind. This 'morality', obsessed with 18 as an arbitrary dividing line, with no consideration for how far either party is from that line, is brand new and didn't exist 10 years ago.

I get that 18 is kinda arbitrary but lets be realistic, morality matters for the functioning of society and, in the case of a teacher seducing a teenage student into sex, is probably right in this case for reasons more than just "it's bad" and so we should throw out any appeals to tradition.

Having sex with a minor has always been illegal and bad from the point of view of law and morality, And even if it wasn't "Bad" 10 years ago, why do you talk as if it were still those times?

You're mistaken. In almost every US state, it is legal for a minor, 16 or 17, depending on the state, to have sex with someone over 18. You think it isn't because most of the mainstream media is made in the only state where it is completely illegal.

Second of all, if you think that it is the default to treat a 16 or 17 year-old like this, then the last 2 million years of human society have some bad news for you. This is something that is barely 100 years old. A 16 or 17 year-old could be the head of a household with a wife and child for almost all of history. This is still the case in many places TODAY.

What does the US laws has to do with this when the manga takes place in Japan?

I don't live in the US so thay isn't what I am basing my argument lol, I literally stated 18 was abritrary and said the issue was the teacher student relation where that is illegal in many US states or, more relevant to Japan, I am pretty sure illegal for students under 18 even if they are at the age of consent there. Even if you want to stick to non-teacher scenarios, in Japan, sexual relations where a minor is involved and the age gap is above 5 years is illegal anyways lol.

Buddy, 16-17 year olds back then had lower life expectancies, more responsibilities thrusted upon them from a young age and lived in times where they didn't have time to wait for 16-17 year olds to mature for all kinds of reasons. We now live in the most safest time historically where 16-17 year olds can go and have a full education without being expected to work a job without (for the average person in a 1st world country) having to worry about putting food on the table as their parents can cover that.

The world isn't like how it was for the majority of the past 2 million years or whatever so stop trying to apply those rules now 😂. According to you, Gotou should be the head of the household raising 3 kids with 2 wives because that is what happened for most of history lol.

It's not like they died at 30. They lived almost as long as us, but on paper, it looks shorter because historical life expectancy is dragged down on paper by infant mortality rates.

The bringing up US state law is not about the law itself but to hopefully point out something incredibly obvious when you hear about those laws: a country of 400 million people hasn't codified this in law, so obviously it is not a universal, moral fact.
Your incredibly narrow-minded view basically amounts to "it's the new viewpoint and it's like that where I'm from, so it is an absolute fact and a moral, universal truth"
