@Liquasa She's scared of undead yet rushes head first into stuff far beyond their level that would easily get them killed without Ares helping them behind the scenes. The sheer amount of arrogance and naivety from the hero is insane. Sure Ares seems untrustworthy but I'm pretty sure the main reason Toudou kicked him is literally cause he's a male. It's not shown here but Toudou fucking crippled adventurers in the guild just cause they made fun of her for wanting an all female party. Yeah so much for real world decency.

As we've seen with the fight with vampire boy, the issue isn't last hitting the demon lord, the issue is the buff that gives him +99% physical and magic immunity

In the novels, the heroine didn't take into account that she's disguised as a male when she went to recruit a priest.
A priest's virginity has a direct impact on their divine power; losing one's virginity could potentially end a priest's career. Hence, most female priests stay with female-only parties or senior parties with trusted figures.
Because Toudou looked like she was making a harem, she was laughed at by the guild adventurers and was denied all access to female priests.
(One of the reasons Ares treated the Hero so poorly and sloppily was because he thought she was (and is) a horny degenerate.)
When Toudou resolved to become a pseudo-healer and tried to recruit a FEMALE warrior, she was again laughed at because no female warrior worth their weight in gold is going to sell themselves off as a slut, especially to a party without a true healer.

The HUMAN Toudou's response was to MURDER and BUTCHER everyone there, slicing off limbs! If Ares didn't come in clutch after and cover-up the whole incident with bribes, heals, and memory wipes, the HUMAN Toudou would be officially a murderer and criminal.

The problem with Toudou isn't that she's naive or an idiot; it's that she's a HYPOCRITE with a dangerous amount of power, holding the responsibility of humanity's survival in her idiotic selfish little hands.
Ares might be an *sshole, but he's trying to save his world, home, and people from destruction by the mortal enemies of his faith.
He's at WAR. Things like "feelings" or mercy are at the back of his mind. Soldiers at war fight and kill the enemy for their cause. That's how war works.
If the fate of your people rested in the hands of a "horny" indecisive hypocritical naive brat, and your superior was forcing you to handicap yourself and actually follow the orders of said brat, you would probably be pretty annoyed, too.

@kaminomikan

The problem with that is that Toudou and co. are too weak to survive the journey to get to that point. The reason Ares is being so anal about forcing Toudou to level up safely is because he needs her ("him") to be statistically strong enough to survive until the final hit.
That's what he actually tried to do with the earth dragon girl (until Toudou somehow recruited her instead).

that priest need to start thinking them as a human not just some gun blazing super terminator machine that just know how to kill
they can't, and they won't because if she dies, is game over for that world.

remember they kicked the priest and they still search for a priest to fill the slot(maybe at first the hero thing she/he can fill that slot )
she is searching for a priest (female priest) because she discovered that she can't fill both roles.

they didn't underestimate the power of the priest but they found the previous priest is not trustable
she underestimated it totally, to the point that she believed that covering both roles, hero/priest was possible, is not that she doesn't trust him. She doesn't trust males, she has some kind of trauma you can see it in chapter 3 when she talks about dropping honorifics, and he goes and do a shoulder pat, and she freaks out, and they totally underestimate him because remember he told them he was just lvl 3, while they are lvl 15 average.

so the only thing that I can agree with you, is that is normal for her to be scared of facing undead for the first time.

@PhoenixStriker5251 I mean, like he could get a real party clean the maou castle beating until 1hp tie it up so it can't do anything else, bring the hero, and have it do the last hit.

So, Ares is the one thinking of baiting "the hero" with a "lost child" in the catacombs...
And when an actual child is presented to execute this plan, he's the one thinking "seriously?"
Did we finally find an actual moral rule he will enforce over cold and ruthless efficiency?
Maybe because children are off-limits to him, but that's definitely a change of attitude compared to how he never considered his former teammates' humanity for his previous plans.

@Liquasa - I totally agree. One doesn't just summon a random teenager and hope she'll take care of the world's troubles for you.

@kaminomikan
they can't, and they won't because if she dies, is game over for that world.
That's exactly the reason they had to think things through, instead of hoping for a flawless hero. You can afford a million soldiers to wash out with PTSD, and recruit two million more to replace them. If the hero washes out, it's game over.
I know this is not a modern world, and they can't apply modern psychology, but a world with lots of adventurers should have much practical experience with party composition. Like giving them an adorable loli to heal their hearts, instead of hoping one will drop from a defeated dragon. Or maybe giving them a motherly figure to take care of the party. And definitely not using it as a growth opportunity for the church's assassin.

His boss might interpret that Ares "abandoning" his mission to support the hero and instead trying to replace the hero.
Ares is currently skirting the line between what is and isn't 'supporting'.

Honestly, the fact that Ares had to handicap himself to a support role without revealing his power is pretty dumb, given that he's the strongest soldier the church has against the demon army. Why the hell is he babysitting a fledgeling hero instead of fighting on the front lines or commanding the armies of humanity?
Ares is the ONLY paladin capable of supervising the hero? In the entirety of the Church's army?
Seems like abhorrent failure in human resource management, forcing your most powerful assassin-fighter to a undercover support role where he isn't allowed to use his full strength.

The problem is that Ares is, apparently, the only person taking the survival of humanity seriously in the entire world.
The knights and the magicians corps were supposed to send their best members to the hero's party. People who could guide, instruct and protect the hero while helping "him" level up fast. Instead, since they didn't know that the hero was a woman and Todo asked for a female only party, they saw this a chance to gain fame and fortune. So they decided to send their useless daughters (they are objectively "defective") to seduce the hero and that way get his literally blessed blood. And the girls are too naive and arrogant to admit or even realize that they simply don't deserve to be in the hero's party. And the hero is so stuck in her "justice" that she doesn't realize any of this. For her, those 2 are her "irreplaceable companions" simply because they were the first women to join her party. The party was doomed from the start.

Ares was expelled for 1 reason and 1 reason only: he was a man. Not because he wasn't trustworthy, not because he wasn't useful, not beacuse he didn't get along well enough with the other party members. Beacuse he was a man. Even though they, including Todo, realize that they can't continue without a priest, the idea of letting Ares, or any male priest, back into the party never comes up. Todo inwardly laments, wondering if things would have been different if Ares had been there. Yet, she insists that expelling him was inevitable.

Sure, Ares could have done some things better, but I think he did the best he could given the absurdity of the situation. They aren't in some kid's adventure to have fun. They are in a war to save the entirety of humanity and defeat the most powerful being in existence, and with an absurd time limit on top of that. The only real mistake that Ares made was about his level. He should have said that he was 45-55. High enough for them to respect him, but not so much that they become dependent of him. In his defense, Ares never thought that he would have to lie about that.
If the objective was to leisurely instruct some noble children, Ares could have been kinder and more comprehensive. But the key point is that Ares shouldn't have to waste his time teaching some spoiled noble brats the very basics of fighting and survival. Wasting time to level the other low level members of the party would only slow down the progress of the hero. And every time he tried to give constructive criticism, they thrown a tantrum. Remember how childishly mad the mage got when Ares told her that she couldn't use large scale fire magic, the only thing she could use, in the forest? And of course she doesn't bother explainig her circumstances, she just becomes indignant. Even when Ares makes the effort to provide an alternative solution, the gun, she just feel insulted.
Ares really tried to help, but they simply refused to collaborate. Ares only lost his cool when something really absurd was revealed. Like a swordman without mana that can't use magic sword techinques or an spirit mage with only one spirit. This was left out of the manga but, after being expelled, Ares adviced the mage to study druid magic. That way she could compansate for her lacking spirit magic as well as their lack of a healer. She never got to it.

And finally, about the zombies. Sure "Todo is a human and has her own weaknesses", but you have to admit that it is incredibly frustating. Todo runs head first againts a much higher level monster that she has no chance of defeating, but then is scared to death of some undead that couldn't hurt her even if she was sleeping? And somehow the other two girls are just the same. Anyone would think would that someone who was born in that world and has, supossedly, recived combat training would understand the importance of levels and advice Todo against things like fighting the 2 plant dragons. And yet the don't seem aware of the danger until it is too late. In the LN they are even worse: It was the swordwoman idea to go fight the vampire beacuse she didn't think that the church members would be able to defeat it. But somehow she thoug that they could, despite being terrified stiff when they faced the wounded dragon.

This ended being quite a long rant, but I needed to get it out of my chest

That hero party is just one disaster after another. It's simply mindboggling how they even survived this long without getting hurt.

Can anyone spoil me if Amelia is in love with Ares and if she ever makes a real attempt to win him over? The amount of fanservice Amelia gets and the fact that she specifically chose to join Ares hints that she has feelings for Ares, but it could also just be that she just highly respects him.

As smart as Ares is, I highly doubt that Ares would ever pick up on anyone trying to seduce him. Ares seems like one of those dense MC that would still be confused even if a girl were literally naked in front of him and grabbing his penis.
