Bold of you to assume that the author had any rhyme or reason beyond following standard tsundere tropes. It might be easy to be misled by all the time we spend in her head (seeing her overthink, rationalize, and justify her situation), but if we strip that away, she still fits the archetype of a flanderized tsundere to a tee. (i.e. impulsive, overly emotional, and stubborn)

I really wanted to root for this girl, but the author seems determined to make that as unpalatable as possible.

Japan is so obsessed with having tsundere's win despite the fact that they're almost always the worst girl (there are exceptions (Kaguya my love)). ISTG if she wins despite starting off this far behind... I will be slightly upset.
