New Reveals

Kim Minsoo called Director Siam and referred to Seo Jiyin as a possible "disguised admission". Let's come back to that later... we have just been shown a sort underground combat. Certain individuals have key Players and it seems they'll be fighting each other. For what exactly? It's not clear at this time. We are introduced to some of these individuals more clearly now. Chairman of the Designated Bully Program, CEO (his business is probably relevant for later) and Loan King/Shark Gang leader. We also know, that Daegun's old acquaintance is working for the Loan Shark. As for the Players and how they are chosen it is unclear.

In chapter 40, we are told by Lee Seunghoon, the Class 1-9 leader and potential snake, that the 3rd grade leaders have all disappeared with Baek Soohyuk. We now know that Baek Soohyuk (Suzy's brother and Geumryong Highschool Leader) is under the Chairman along with other 3rd graders. So the Chairman has the entire 3rd graders in his pocket for whatever this underground combat is. Meanwhile, the Chairman is using the Director to head Daegun as top bully. The Director has been suspicious of the Chairman, and he didn't want to get her involved in this underground combat. So now he probably has 3 objectives:

  • Get Daegun to clear out Highschool(s) (we've seen inferences that he wants this happening everywhere early on)
  • Use players, such as Soohyuk, to compete in underground combat
  • If the contention between the Director and Chairman means anything, it's possible the Director really is part of a real Designated Bully Program, but the Chairman is using it to create Players to win underground combat. He refer to other Players fighting as "youth", so there might be a rule that Players must be in Highschool or of Highschool age. That would make the Chairman a "cheater" if he takes this path. He might try to recruit Daegun as a player.

The Designated Bully Program and Underground Combat (Speculation)

On the other hand, maybe the Director is in the know and is to cover up the Chairman's track. Kim Minsoo calling Seo Jiyin a "disguised admission" could mean some other faction related to the Designated Bully Program or the Underground Sports is sending spys to other Key individuals in competing factions to try expose them. Maybe to report to law enforcement? She was able to recognize Director Siam before so she too has a a history here. In any case, it's clearer as to why Seo Jiyin is on the cover. She has the potential to derail the Chairman, Director, Daegun and pretty much everyone else. She said her brother got done in by bullies. Could he have been involved in a previous Bully Program or the Underground Combat?

In any case, seeing Daegun's acquaintance working for someone in this underground sport brings a lot more clarity to Daegun's past. He cleared out the Highschools in his area and was involved with this guy and his gang at some point. Daegun might have a history of being a Player. It would also explain why the Director seeked out Daegun in the first place; she might have seen what Daegun is capable of. She even "threatened" in Chapter 1, that he should "atone for his mistakes"; Daegun solemnly looking ahead, took the meeting & position more seriously after that.

What's Next?

Lee Seunghoon plot line is not over yet. He has an inner circle of 2nd graders he is working with. He already betrayed one of them and was caught. The other 2nd grader was taking a picture of Daegun and sent it to Baek Soohyuk's assistant, just like Lee Seunghoon wanted. Just like Seo Jiyin, Lee Seunghoon is another wedge in the Designated Bully Program and the Underground Combat dichotomy. I think his big reveal will come after Daegun SMASHES Baek Soohyuk.

Daegun is in the dark, and still has to complete beating out all the leaders. Baek Soohyuk wants to fight Daegun ASAP. I really hope the author does not drag this out by introducing all the 3rd graders. It would be pointless after seeing Daegun destroy the 2nd graders in 3 chapters.

Questions

When the Director gave the instruction to take down everyone, was she aware that the Chairman is using Baek Soohyuk as a Player? Does the Chairman even want his Players fighting each other? I don't see Daegun getting involved with the Underground Combat at all unless he is pressured to or it gets him closer to entering college. He'll walk away from his past like he did when he met his acquaintance.

How will other schools be involved in all of this? In Chapter 1, other board members were against the Director's proposal of the Designated Bully Program, but the Chairman liked it because "it was fun". If other Key Individuals are gathering Players from schools, this might be another avenue in which the Chairman can get the upper hand through Daegun and the Designated Bully Program.

Yeah more Jiu Jitsu. This time maybe with his classmate who brought it up first (like chapter 1 or 2?), or best girl Ara (glasses).
