Author/artist must’ve loved the pacing for DBZ-grade fights. Fucking worships it.
Annoyingly it fits narratively speaking.
As with all the tournament arcs, the newcomers get to show what's their thing (since it's 2 v 2 guilds, there's 2 guild to introduce)
Things start out bad because the PKers are trolling.
Then some chapters in Hinagiku said something to the PK leader when protecting her, dying in the process.
Whatever she said hit deep enough that the PK leader decide to change her mind and want to try and seriously win.
And now Crim side get to show what they can do working together.

TBF, the manga is best treated as a "definitive version" or "Final Draft". It's less of an adaptation and more a full scale rewrite that expands the story significantly.
Also in what world is anything shorter than 50 chapters considered a long arc? Ignore the waiting period for chapters. Fill that time with other manga. The less you feel that wait the less it'll affect your reading experience. The Desert Merrow arc isn't even that long.
If a single incident take more than 1 full volume to cover, I think you can start considering it long enough.
And this is looking to take even longer than that so...
