All the more reason why it's cool to see Ran still use her flipphone instead of a smartphone in present day. What the... Smartphone already exist when shinichi in elementary school?! What a mind blowing
It's actually a real trend in Japan, some of the younger generation have switched back to flip phones (aesthetic preference and/or to counter social media addiction). Just bear in mind Japanese flip phones are far better than what you'll find elsewhere (quality and features), in fact they're really popular outside of Japan too. Look up 'dumbphones' to for more info on the topic. All the more reason why it's cool to see Ran still use her flipphone instead of a smartphone in present day.
I've watched a couple of videos of modern flip phones in Japan and damn, I had no idea they legitimately sell high quality flip phones like this video example. It's actually a real trend in Japan, some of the younger generation have switched back to flip phones (aesthetic preference and/or to counter social media addiction). It even already existed in Kohji's Murder Case 17 years before the series' timelineWhat the... Smartphone already exist when shinichi in elementary school?! What a mind blowing

Uh... in the manga there were only 1 of those special days. It's so weird to think that in the late 90s when this manga started they didn't even have cameras on phones, and mobile phones were too expensive for a kid to have then unless you were a spoilt child or had rich parents. That's why the Detective Boys badges were "invented"; it would have seemed unbelievable for a group of little kids to have mobiles, but walkie talkies seemed plausible so give them a few more functions like trackers and make them compact and you can get around that.
If time had run normally or stopped for the manga, rather than being set perpetually in the present no matter how many birthdays, white days, Valentine's days and Christmases that happen, then Shinichi and Ran would have been in primary school in the late 80s/early 90s and they'd be in their early 40s now.
