It’s obvious for us that live there as we have to read and learn about it in school. But can’t see why many other countries would spend much time on it, they have their own famous literature.
A lot of H.C. Andersen's tales were adapted into anime, especially for the World Masterpiece Theater series, though his tale of the mermaid only got a movie...

Damn Diana with glasses in that colour page is doing things to me…

On the other hand, holding a pen and writing with those claws on her fingertips has got to be a challenge.

The language she's being taught being danish is a pretty cute callback, I'd imagine that's flying over the head of the majority of the japanese audience though.

Yes, it's Danish. And obviously a reference to the origin of the story of the Little Mermaid (as is Leo's surname, Andersen).
Man, as a Finn my Swedish is getting of so rusty when I even read Danish and thought it was Swedish. Doesn't help that I haven't had a singular conversation with a Swedish person in my life.
Btw in Swedish the line would be "Hej. Jag heter -name-".
