Directly link chapters to unwilling scanalator groups to their direct site? :rejected:

Hi,

I know that there are groups out there that are unwilling to put their chapters on mangadex, but to fix the "annoying" habit of mangadex which deletes everything, and having the readers do some heavy work of searching for the scanalator group, (not a bad thing, but a bit tedious which can make the reader give up) I wanted to propose if it is possible to link the chapters directly at the main source scanalators. That way more people are visiting the scanalators and people don't have to worry about thorough searching.

Well, they don't want to bother upload it here so why bother promote their site? Seems only benefits them.

Maybe direct link to their MD group page. A couple problems linking to their site.
1) Some groups are intentionally "hidden". They do not want to be known by the public at large for various reasons (support the author's official translation, avoid DCMAs, hate criticism, etc). These groups may additionally not have a site, or have passwords for every chapter that you must get elsewhere.
2) Groups are largely temporal entities. There is no guarantee they or their site will exist tomorrow. (especially with the extra DCMAs we may now be exposing them to)
3) Some don't have a site to begin with. Discord, IRC, Email. These aren't just more formal ways of communicating with eachother than the comment page, there are several groups that only exist through one of these medians. Eg. IRC/IRC-bots used to be a popular way of share scanlations/fansubs instead of or in addition to a site.

what benefit does it give to MD?

Considering we are all leeching off this site, with no ads and no script mining bitcoins in the bg.... I don't think any feature they add directly benefits anyone other than their users. If we want to do that, a (non-nested) donate button in the Navbar would be a good start.

Agreed with firefish5000. Link to their group page here on Mangadex, but don't link directly to the chapters. Added benefit of a lot less work involved if a group wants to shut down and remove their work- you can just redirect all applicable entries to their group page. It also lets people know who to blame for the chapter not being up, rather than claiming MD was broken or something of the like.

We already link to the group site (if one exists) on their group page. We believe that is sufficient.

Also, we are not responsible for deleting - the group in question does the deleting.

Reasons for not linking directly to the group site:

1. There's no guarantee that the site won't go down in future.
2. Some groups may use heavy profiteering techniques (ads, pop ups, pop unders, bitcoin miners, viruses etc) and we do not want to be responsible for directing you to those sites (nor do we have time to vet each group site)
3. Unscrupulous groups may abuse such a feature - we're a reader site, not a portal (you have mangaupdates for this)
