Chapter List Comment Links Should Link Directly to the Thread, Not Open the Chapter With a Narrow Comments Column

Don't get me wrong, I think having the comments available in the reader is a good thing, but I do not like the comment link on the chapter list itself not linking directly to the thread.

Why did the comment links need to change from the thread (what I want and use) to what is now effectively a small section in the reader?
This negates the possibility of jumping to the comment thread without marking a chapter as read. (Yes, this is a thing I have done. If I see a chapter with two uploads, I will check the comments to see if I can find out why; what's different. That does not mean I want it marked as read.)

It also rather small at best; not great if your intention is actually reading/replying to the thread. It's great for quick things, yeah, but that's it.

Edit: So I think the new comments are separate from the forum comments? I'm not sure. Either way, there should be a way to view comments without being in the chapter reader, and ideally without marking a chapter as read.

The UI is the biggest issue so far.
The decoupling from the forums is bikeshedding, this has real usability issues. Primarily, which I already criticized in another thread, that opening the comments opens the chapter, which is just stupid.
Sure I can mark it as unread after the fact if I want to, something that's an unnecessary extra step on its own, but downloading each page when I just want to see what people have to say is simply a strain both for me, who has to download MBs of picture I will not even see, and the server who is uploading MBs of pictures I will not even see.

They are separate, and the plan is to keep both alive. As it currently stands, the function to read the old forums comments and create forum threads are buried underneath the new system, and are not readily apparent at a glance. This caused confusion, as some regular users think that the forums will be forsaken in favor of the new comments system, and that comments are going to be paywalled, all while the new system is still being beta tested by Supporters and Contributors.

That said, this thread would probably be merged into this earlier suggestion/thread sooner or later.

it's ok if we don't get 2 buttons
but at least we should be able to automatically go to the forum comments without having to click twice
it's like an added annoyance that serves no purpose
Here's the thing, as it is right now, unless the same button would open both the platform comments (the new comments) and the forum comments (being kept for general chat and discussions) in the same page at the same time, there would be a need to click twice. Two buttons would allow the forums to keep their function and worth of discussions with the click of a single button, while also allowing the new comments to take over for simple commentaries.

it's what I suggested originally, but we got a direct "No."
webdev drama it is, I guess

I already made a thread for that suggestion, stated my explanation on how they could've implement it, and answered how having separate buttons for [Comments](Platform) and [Discussions](Forums) WOULDN'T be confusing at all. Also, the so-called "leading to a further split of platform vs forums" won't really matter much at the end of the day, because if all of this is implemented properly, users would be able to choose to use one, the other, or both with no real issues whatsoever.
