Chapter List Comment Links Should Link Directly to the Thread, Not Open the Chapter With a Narrow Comments Column

Don't get me wrong, I think having the comments available in the reader is a good thing, but I do not like the comment link on the chapter list itself not linking directly to the thread.

Why did the comment links need to change from the thread (what I want and use) to what is now effectively a small section in the reader?
This negates the possibility of jumping to the comment thread without marking a chapter as read. (Yes, this is a thing I have done. If I see a chapter with two uploads, I will check the comments to see if I can find out why; what's different. That does not mean I want it marked as read.)

It also rather small at best; not great if your intention is actually reading/replying to the thread. It's great for quick things, yeah, but that's it.

Edit: So I think the new comments are separate from the forum comments? I'm not sure. Either way, there should be a way to view comments without being in the chapter reader, and ideally without marking a chapter as read.

The UI is the biggest issue so far.
The decoupling from the forums is bikeshedding, this has real usability issues. Primarily, which I already criticized in another thread, that opening the comments opens the chapter, which is just stupid.
Sure I can mark it as unread after the fact if I want to, something that's an unnecessary extra step on its own, but downloading each page when I just want to see what people have to say is simply a strain both for me, who has to download MBs of picture I will not even see, and the server who is uploading MBs of pictures I will not even see.

They are separate, and the plan is to keep both alive. As it currently stands, the function to read the old forums comments and create forum threads are buried underneath the new system, and are not readily apparent at a glance. This caused confusion, as some regular users think that the forums will be forsaken in favor of the new comments system, and that comments are going to be paywalled, all while the new system is still being beta tested by Supporters and Contributors.

That said, this thread would probably be merged into this earlier suggestion/thread sooner or later.

it's ok if we don't get 2 buttons
but at least we should be able to automatically go to the forum comments without having to click twice
it's like an added annoyance that serves no purpose
Here's the thing, as it is right now, unless the same button would open both the platform comments (the new comments) and the forum comments (being kept for general chat and discussions) in the same page at the same time, there would be a need to click twice. Two buttons would allow the forums to keep their function and worth of discussions with the click of a single button, while also allowing the new comments to take over for simple commentaries.

it's what I suggested originally, but we got a direct "No."
webdev drama it is, I guess

I already made a thread for that suggestion, stated my explanation on how they could've implement it, and answered how having separate buttons for [Comments](Platform) and [Discussions](Forums) WOULDN'T be confusing at all. Also, the so-called "leading to a further split of platform vs forums" won't really matter much at the end of the day, because if all of this is implemented properly, users would be able to choose to use one, the other, or both with no real issues whatsoever.

Let's see: The new system requires 2 steps, that is if a paying member has already created the comments thread. If not, you can't comment and you can't create the new comments thread...
This is not an improvement. It's blocking the comments with a paywall.

Please, bring back the old system.

 I thought people vibecode after a clean idea but this idea itself seems AI generated and prompt was given by someone who could not communicate properly in AI supported languages.

I'll just drop this here as it seems relevant to this thread.
Imagine if the 10 chapter daily limit when not logged in was still in place. "Oh you want to check the new comments of a chapter you already read? That will be +1 towards your daily limit, thank you."
The comments needing to load the reader seems to be contradictory towards their concerns about server load since you now have to open a chapter you aren't going to read just to check the new comments.
Seeing as the team would want to try again with some other form of the API abuse enforcement, you're going to have to commit to reading it or leaving it if they try again with daily chapter limits.

You missed:
  • Was not intentional, everyone is supposed to be able to create forum threads
  • A fix is on its way, if all goes according to schedule, some time todayMonday.

I am so, so, SOOOO fed up with UI updates that just break the website or make it more tedious to navigate. It’s never a good update, it’s always abysmal dogshit that people only eventually “get used to.” You people are doing this for free? I will fucking pay you to quit website design forever.

Since it was brought up that the current sliding panel is meant to "meet the desire for a comment section more integrated with the reader", consider this change:
The button inside the reader slides the panel open and close.
The button outside the reader opens a dedicated page for the comment section.

Same data, different view.
It addresses an important concern: pointlessly opening the reader to read comments.

It seems a stupid thing to get angry about, but entering the reader means downloading large images and, well, marking a chapter as read. The latter point cascades to the read indicator getting toggled and to have an entry in the reading history.

If I click/tap on the comment button outside, like in the "Feed" page, it's because I want to see what people have to say. If I want to read the chapter I click/tap the title, which is larger and easier to interact with.

Adding a /chapter/{id}/comments page does not mean you have to remove the sliding panel. You can keep both at the same time.

I would also like to see a big orange "Comment this chapter" button next to the "Next Chapter/Return to title page" button at the bottom of the page, since I typically don't read with the sidebar open.

Agreed, and if you open a new tab for the comments now you not only have the extra delay of waiting for images to load and the coments to load so you can then navigate to the forum link it also opens ANOTHER tab on regular click and have to close the useless chapter that loaded

Also I sometimes don't even want to have to look at the image since im trying to figure stuff about which scalation group to read before i start reading. This is just adding extra server load on themselves.
