urgh, this whole chapter was painful.
Not only is the prince's arguments inane ("don't look for mages among the commoners. Only nobles could possibly be useful". "mages don't need protection to give them time to mage". etc.), but then mc also went from "I refuse to let my new life be about fulfilling expectations" to "some guy was talking down to a friend, so now I need to live up to his expectations to prove him wrong!"
