Demeter certainly makes for a devastating enemy, but I have to say that I'm surprised given the events of Danmachi V16. I assume Persephone figures into this somehow; maybe as an alternate personality? Or a body double?

i'm genuinely surprised by this plot twist. demeter is not known to be an evil goddess. sure she has connections to the underworld but that's mostly because her brother hades, ruler of the underworld, kidnapped her daughter and forcibly married her.

Well, the manga raws use "ダンジョンに匹敵する大穴" which only means something like "a big hole that would be a match for / equivalent to the dungeon, so it is actually way less vague and doesn't give the impression that the are gods the reason for the dungeon. but we went with the YenPress LN translation which says "If a pillar of light came down from the heavens, it would gouge another hole in the mortal realm besides the Dungeon." ... dunno, i'm always torn between keeping it literally to the raws or leaning more to a TL an actual professional had already done

You could have a point, the dungeon could have been formed by the gods' attempt to kill the god-queen of monster kind and she took over the hole after they failed.
