Making laws that retroactively apply to actions that wasn't a crime in the past is hard to justify unless these new secular laws are based on eternal religious laws, and there isn't something like that in that storywas it so hard to make these elves criminals?

This ending is just like one of those movies where they just put what happened next in text in the credits, like those Bollywood movies “He later was jailed but released on good behavior” kinda shit.
No I mean they could've made slavery illegal in the first place and it would be the exact same story with the exception of this moment right here. Even if I can forgive the humans for being a backwards people. I find it difficult to maintain the illusion that elves in general tend to be more progressive who would definitely outlaw slavery. That's not to say that " elves do no wrong" but I am saying " generally better then humans"( unless were playing like Warhammer). The author here seems to have written them as " pointy ear humans that like to live in forests"Making laws that retroactively apply to actions that wasn't a crime in the past is hard to justify unless these new secular laws are based on eternal religious laws, and there isn't something like that in that story
