(or that she had a route with Vernel before Elrise showed up, meaning it was possible to build up relationship with her)

And even if it's another monster attack, so what? The only one they can't let Elrise kill is the witch, she's free to go murderhobo on any other monsters (why do you think they let her go defend the capital here?)

and you need to see POV of the ordinary people in there too, 'the witch fears saint' is only a rumor (despite it being truth from reader's POV) because no one saw the witch after Elrise became active as a saint, even though the current era is at peace, the mention of the witch still send fear down people heart

Again, if it's not the witch, they can let Elrise go full murderhobo to wipe them out.

actually it's both, Leila decides to betray Elrise so Elrise would live on is true, and about the greater good is also true, because she is aware of the fact that the saint who defeated the witch will become the next witch, and if Elrise who has immense power were to become the witch, no other saints would be able to defeat her, and the world will be sent straight to ruin, all the knights think the same which lead them to betray Elrise, since at the time they didn't know that Elrise is not a saint lol

It's almost like Elrise intentionally said it low enough that only the knight could hear so no shit Leila (or anybody else) couldn't hear it.

Thankfully "I" read the previous chapters unlike someone who seem to asscanon things.
