I just wanna say that im so glad that they didnt butcher tsurugi and pulled a "hes too old so now hes gonna die" trope. They made it very clear what his morals are and despite his age, the only reason why he didnt instakill goryuu was because he was holding back hoping that he could spare him. The moment goryuu offered him the core, he didnt waste time and instanly killed him.

Yeah, I do like that Tsurugi offered Goryuu mercy but then instantly rescinded it when Goryuu made it clear that he was not nor ever giving up on turning Tsurugi.

Shows that Tsurugi while certainly nostalgic enough for the old times to let Goryuu go, is only doing so on the premise that he believes Goryuu can still be the friend he once was, which Goryuu then immediately proves wrong. Causing Tsurugi to do what was necessary.

"Even after witnessing with your own eyes the possibilities lying in this power. You're still hung up over such petty ideals?"

"Yea lemme just kill all beings on the planet, that will ensure peace. How can you doupt the methods after seeing the results?"

fucking dummas

"My exceedingly long springtime has now, just now... Come to an end."

That line goes so hard.

Even as his body aged, he kept his youth and the simplicity of his life - killing monsters and making bentos. But you can only imagine the weight of such an adult responsibility - putting down a dear friend who has grown twisted into a monster. No doubt that aged him fiercely.

Everyone's talking about how much of a chad Tsurugi is but my question is where does this put us? This felt really quick for someone who I thought would be a major or recurring villain.

Technically we still have the big bad that Tsurugi never finished off, origins of chimera, and probably the first human chimera as well?
Yea, but it still feels off that the guy who was played off as a major villain was just offed like that. I mean, he was played off as quite the baddie but was offed in just a few chapters.
It just feels that this manga is too quick with fights.

For someone whose role is quite important at first glance, Goryuu got offed quite quickly. Like, you'd expect him to retreat and perfect his chimera tech before offering it to the strongest hunter alive

I feel that these least few chapters are well done if you take them for what they are, but when I look at the series as a whole, I honestly feel like this probably happened too soon. I feel like we JUST found out that these dudes even knew each other (if this was mentioned earlier then I totally forgot about it) and that this fight was so deeply personal for them.

Structurally it's really good so I'm able to forget that the timing was a little weird. If Goryuu was meant to be a character building device for Tsurugi which tells us that he ain't number 1 for nothing, then it certainly accomplishes this and I love that this series cherishes it's power scaling, allowing even the MC to hit her ceiling in the face of a major villain. This creates a powerful baseline that is the world this story takes place in, the characters that live within it and rules in which things operate and it emphasizes that these things matter.

Also makes it more impactful/disappointing when inevitably the MC plot armors through all that shit, but I hope that doesn't happen.
