"It was like... She was just an empty husk..."

So, if you're among those of us who pulled Okita at some point in FGO, you may have noticed what I'm about to say already, but I'll explain in full anyway.

In FGO, Okita's voice lines vary quite a bit based on what she's doing. Out of combat her voice is the typical cutesy type that Aoi Yuuki is known to play, but in the battle dialogue her tone of voice becomes much more serious, almost to the point that she sounds like a different person.

The line of dialogue shared by the MC and Izou that I quoted almost confirms something I've thought for a while based on what I said about her voice lines in FGO: in combat Okita shuts off most emotion so she can focus on the fight, but at the same time substantially altering her personality.

Might not just be backlash from the [Command Seal], some fun speculation on the side.

I'm assuming due to strange nature of her summoning from the Light Novel or perhaps the ephemeral nature of her master in this era, her existence as a servant is pretty loose causing her body to possibly mimic that of her-life body more so when she was sick with Tuberculosis rather than being summoned in the body of a servant that is arguably much more sturdier.

I guess in a simpler sense of words, she might be closer to a half incarnation of her real self despite being summoned as a servant so she will still feel the most prominent events that led to her afterlife before death in the Light Novel she was summoned from which was dying from Tuberculosis. Initially she thought it was due to her pushing body too much due to the [Command Seal], but after coughing up some more blood she immediately recognized if not surprised to learn that she was still sick despite becoming a servant.

@KinGrove

She has her tuberculosis condition in basically every one of her appearances in Fate, so there's nothing unique about her summoning here. Her condition was such a significant aspect of her story that it's included in her spirit origin as a skill, and as such cannot be healed by any means while she is a heroic spirit.

Gotta love how okita tuberculosis is so ingrained in her spirit origin, that not even the grail can cure her for the war

Bit late in replying here, but man it sucks that my prediction that Ryouma and Oryou showing up for this battle did not pan out. I still think there's going to a point in which Tsukumo gets grievously wounded again and has to be healed by Oryou, including her left hand that had their fingers chopped off. Because her hand is still not going to be 100% with her fingers having been reattached in an ad-hoc field medical way, not properly done in a formal hospital setting.

So glad I waited a bit, now I don't want to stop reading. And hell, that minds eye panel with Okita is amazing.

And I still love Izo, all his obvious flaws and skills. You put up a good fight! And to think it's only the 2nd day...

Can someone explain to me why Izo gave Okita so much trouble when Okita was the one who pretty much destroyed him irl?

@BloodySorcerer wdym? They never met irl. Okita destroyed him here too, so there is little to be unsatisfied about. He wouldn't be curbstomped without even being able to fight back just because he is an assassin. He certainly is slower but with his NP he can copy her sword skills and shukuchi to a certain extent (reducing the disadvantage), not to mention the skills he already had in life that were strengthened as a heroic spirit (like the jigen-ryuu sword attack he used to slice a portion of okita's shoulder). Other factors that contribute to his victory was the constant presence of hostages he could threaten just by not being occupied constantly (kanata and his grandma, in fact he was right beside grandma and would have cut her down before saber got to do anything if it wasn't for the command spell strengthening), making dodging and retreating very hard to do for okita. That's harsh to win against if you have no magic powers and okita still did it (obviously they are both magical monstrosities but I mean that they don't have anything like mystic eyes, curses, reality marbles, abilities that are more unorthodox and unpredictable than swinging a sword faster than the speed of sound which is not as impressive and useful if everyone you fight against also has the same capacity)

@DukeHermann they actualy met, there is a famous story about the shinsengumi hunting down this particular murderer. It's actually been adapted to many stories and even games have it as an ingame mission.
