I believe people have been burned out by several other stories pulling this trope but having a piss poor execution.
But then again, they're definitely jumping the gun here and not giving time for the mangaka to show what they can do with this trope. Maybe it'll be the best execution of this trope, but people are too quick to judge and dismiss someone else's work.

Huh, I had a feeling she'd be back (you don't give a character in a flashback an age) but I didn't think it's be 8 chapters later. For reference, go back to the flashback in Ch. 1, page 21. Apparently his creepy smile made her cry and that's how he got his nickname of Stoney. I guess either it's water under the bridge (it was 10 years ago. Kindergarteners don't really Hold grudges) or there's a misunderstanding to be cleared next chapter or 2.
Mitsuha has some good intuition for putting 2 and 2 together in minutes. I wasn't sure if MC gave her a name. I guess people are freaking out but I wanna see how this goes first. Maybe she gets into the business as well

We started off with an assertive glamorous girl, and now added another assertive glamorous girl. Can’t they have contrasted Mitsuha with a responsible smart girl instead? We’d get the “maybe she’s a better fit for stoney than me” from Mitsuha, and “what’s this thot doing dragging a good student around” from the new girl. But no, instead we got a second blatant fanservice character. So long as the characters have depth and are distinguished I don’t mind it, but this is insulting to the reader.

There’s a chance that she has a crisis of consciousness, decides to be a more honest person, and completely changes her look to reflect that. Kinda like how the gyarus in gyaru romance manga always ditch the gaudy makeup. Still bad writing though.
Well Here comes the short hair bitch. This is the second manga that introduced these bums. Why can’t we just enjoy a manga without these whore coming in start bothering us now this manga definitely isn’t getting a confession until 2030

Wow they REALLY love to use the "new girl who has a closer relationship with mc" trope as soon as main female lead is starting to recognize her feelings. it's like they have no other plot devices to use
