I'm not sure if I've ever seen anyone say this, but everyone in this manga is so weird. Everyone acts robotic it feels in a way, or the dialogue doesn't feel that genuine. The way the eyes are upturned every so often like with Takigi on page 10 this chapter is just not right. It's just had this offputting feeling for a while, or possibly from the beginning. I didn't read Soul Eater so I'm not sure if this is just present in this manga, or in most/all of the mangaka's works.

NOT A BACKSTORY FLASHBACK NOW!!" like of course, it's cool to know about your favorite characters but I think the mangaka missed his chance with this girl like 100 chapters ago Timing is important after all, but this was in order to introduce his brother and it was brief so ... I guess we're saved xP

@Secretive783 I believe is the mangaka's style, he probably needs more social interaction experience to make more realistic behaviors... And about the eyes, is just a small error, his father is tall so he has to look up a bit but it would feel more natural to move your head and not just your eyes, that's why it looks so obvious

@bobo I think the more accurate translation for the word "太か"(in the context of their conversation) is "thick" rather than"fat". That's why Maki's dad asked her if she wasn't overdoing her workouts lol.

@secretive783 It happens in all of his manga. All of his characters are a little weird and exaggerated, and often have a specific "quirk" to their behavior. I'm pretty sure it's intentional; since the settings he creates are quite nonsensical to begin with, the characters' unhinged demeanor doesn't feel out of place. I actually rather appreciate the atmosphere it creates.
