I do understand that its a different time and arranged marriages were normal but to actually propose in public without properly consulting the woman about it?????? And then basically forcing her right then and there to say yes?????????

@SunnyLight to be fair, Emily was the one who made this into a public event by announcing that the male lead had proposed in front of everyone. And the MC accidentally made things worse by saying that it was a joke. By the time the male lead got there a public proposal was the only way to defuse the situation. If he hadn't there would have been an enormous scandal and both Dylan's father and his grandfather would have been pissed.

this is disgusting, so the framing is that because a man will be embarrassed she should be a breeder, and just die instead of her sister....that's the joke.
Also the man is a Duke, He has higher status then everyone that why its called social status, he could have just said "he was thinking about proposing to someone" and that Emily misheard, on top of the fact that he has better social status, and far more finical standing then Dylan so he has power over her. He also knows she doesn't want marry him but he decided to force her into a situation anyway.

Either way her reputation would've been damaged, so idk why some people are being so sensitive about it. After Emily made it public, his only good option was to propose, and her only good option was to accept. Why should he take a reputation hit for her just because her sister was a big mouth? Plus, there's such a thing as engagement annulment. Just don't publicly humiliate like Miles did.

In the garden Cedric said "what would u do if proposed to u". He said this to tease Dylan. He joked about it because he knew Dylan didn't like him (he was getting back at her for stamping his foot). But Emily thought that he proposed to Dylan and went told it to her family in ball (so pretty much everyone found out). Then Dylan messed up and said it was a joke - Dad got angry (for comparison - imagine someone proposes to u - then tells u sorry I just said that for a dare - imagine how pissed off you'd be if u took them seriously ). At this point Cedric had to propose to her. It wasn't about reputation or status. The two families were friendly Duke's has high status - mc's family has long history. If he didn't propose, it would ruin the relation between their families and Dylan's dad would obviously hold a grudge. To put it simply Cedric cleaned up the mess Emily and Dylan created.
And I don't get why you're disgusted about the ml. Yes sister dies in the original but ml gets devastated by it. Also just because sister dies in the original doesn't mean mc will also die

It was already stated clearly before, that the grandfather was upset he couldn't marry someone from Dylan's family, Dylan's great grandmother*. The Grandfather is just making his grandson fulfill his wishes through his grand child. It has nothing to do with upholding the family standing you sexist prick. It just a man not taking no for an answer because he wants the pureblood Nobel status. . He could have easily stated what I said, to fix the situation as he already knows she doesn't want to marry him. He isn't "helping" when he already knows she doesn't like him.
Also the story is clearly set in the past, you are either misogynists' or a dunce if you are unaware of how dangerous childbirth is for woman even now in the present, and it was far worst in a historical setting when people didn't bother to understand the female body. Hence why this story is using the "died in childbirth" historical issue in the first place. Dylan's chance of dying are high, and Dylan also think she is going to die in the first place. Men were fully aware of how dangerous childbirth was for woman but they still tried to knock them up anyway because having a "heir" to carry on the blood line was something male's find important. Nobility is carried on through blood and almost never adoption and their are tones of brutal historical figures that were abusive to their wives and woman when they couldn't get [male] heir like wanted. This is a historical fact that is seen in every culture, as well as the worship of fertility gods because humans were well aware of dangerous childbirth.
