Unfortunately, due to a rise in incompetence gremlins have lost that sort of job in many parts of the world. All those years of learning how to masterfully sabotage engines and generations of passing that on have gone to waste when you can now just hire someone who doesn't grasp "don't go in front of the engine" and just gets sucked right in to break it, to say nothing of countless other disastrous failures.

So now gremlins are reduced to messing with people's heads in safer ways, with nothing keeping their explosive breeding habits in check.
