No, he's really not. On top of having an ego he's shown that he's the type of guy who doesn't take no for an answer and has resorted to harassing their sibling in order to get ahold of the girl he's after just to harass her some more after being told no several times. That's not to mention his attitude towards other girls and how he treated their affection like a currency.

It's because of the fact that he's a lot of bad traits all put together to make amalgam of human refuse. While a lot of characters can be worse than him in one aspect they usually have an entertaining quality to balance it out. For example, a Narcissist but, so over the top that you can't help but laugh. IE: Makes a pose in front of a mirror every time he sees one. This guy has no entertainment value. He's just set there to act as a psuedo foil but not even an entertaining one that's why you hate him. It's because he has nothing but crap traits and a totally bland personality.
