I

I'm guessing they're gonna close the gate, then open it again since Lelei is already in our world.

Now that I think about it, I recently found out after this series ends, there is a spin-off about the Japanese Navy in the other world and was wondering how they get ships through a gate in the middle of a city (maybe the same way they got large planes through) but maybe they save Lelei, or China opens a gate and it's on the shore of Japan/China
I haven't read the LN, but in Asian geopolitics, China and Japan don't get along because of territorial disputes, even long before the pandemic. If the JMSDF is the focus, then it's not likely China will have any foothold or stake in JMSDF's operations in the sequel. Maybe an antagonistic role, or a pain-in-the-posterior from the sidelines?
What is it really? Are they backing backing off from the field or are they regrouping for massive nuke attack?
Japan doesn't have or use nuclear weapons. They have a non-nuclear weapons policy, whether possession, production, or introduction.

Damn, this author, or artist, had a godly level of appreciation for hardware. I fucking loved the F-4 as a kid, and this guy does it some justice.

Very well crafted story; just caught up about 40 chapters!

I like how they just subtly have China act exactly like China, while interspersing 40K, Roman Empire, Metal Gear, and sometimes just random memes into the artwork and dialogue...

I haven't read it either. I was thinking China could open it on the coast or in the water off the coast and either Japan somehow works out a deal (unlikely) or straight up invades and occupies the gate area forming a sort of Alnus base in our side of the gate

I'm disappointed at how everything played out in the story. But I understand that you have to drag out the story to prolong stuff and get a satisfactory ending.
But really? A general withdrawal of all units back to Alnus for a riot that would require only like 1 regiment worth of infantry to clear out efficiently. And also the security checks, I forgot the word in English for it but they shouldn't be this lazy and should've at least checked what's inside before being transported back to Japan for another check before being shipped for safety purposes. The riot was also surprisingly handled very badly considering the reputation of japanese riot police. Still confused on why they didn't make a larger perimeter for security for the GATE site in Ginza along with creating a joint JSDF-TMPD task force to patrol and respond to any incidents involved at the site

That's the sequel. "Gate 2 ~Weight Anchor~". The story focuses on the JMSDF (Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force). The time setting is after the Gate is successfully reopened by Lelei (more than 1.5 years Special Area time or 4 years Japanese time from the ending of Gate 1). At the ending of Gate 1, the "Gate" was forced to close and destroyed due to the chaos in Alnus. Since this is JMSDF, so... new MC and harem.
Is that this series or something different?

So, it's not on mangadex yet, right?
To my knowledge, Gate 2 has not yet been adapted to manga. And no one has yet translated the novel into English too, even the unofficial translation. I don't know if it's because Gate 2 is less popular than Gate 1 outside Japan ( No Itami No Party  ), or because the author's writing style is said to be difficult to translate into English so no one dares to pick up this series. It is said that Skythewood translated the novel Gate 1 using the Chinese version of the novel, because the Japanese version's writing style was difficult to understand.

Exactly. There're so many times that they can just help ending the battle faster by snipe out enemies' commanders too. Hell, even just keep bombing the shitty prince's palace will work. That much air and transportation superiority guarantee 100% victory on full scale battle.

People seem to misunderstand that "Itaden" is an order to stop the operation.
It is not. It is a highest-priority emergency region-wide order to halt all ongoing forward operations and to regroup at Alnus.
It just so happens that it was issued during such an important operation.

They can't disobey it, such an order literally takes precedence over anything else.
It doesn't matter whether they're taking the enemy capital or providing supplies to a village in the mountains.

Now, it's whole another issue as to why something like that was introduced to the already suddenly overloaded jumble of plotlines.
