Airborne qualified, but hates jumping out of perfectly good aircrafts? You know what, it totally make sense, no sarcasm lol
His former C.O. forced him into the S group as punishment and they wouldn't let him out until he completed the training. Imagine being in the Navy and claustrophobic, and you were forced into a submarine crew because you pissed off a Captain.

The whole thing is that the current PM is cowardly and is more concerned about his party keeping control of the government next election than actually doing their job. That's why he hasn't fully mobilized the SDF, as it would "make him look bad in the eyes of the voters" for "using unnecessary force".
Maybe it's just me but losing a gate, the key to it( and the army behind it) which also happens to destabilize both worlds to china seems a little worse

I absolutely have zero expertise when it comes to the military, but even if he's qualified, I think those guys still need to do it regularly for practice and to lessen the (reasonable) fear of jumping off a plane/helicopter.

And I don't see Itami doing regular airborne exercises at all.

But whatever, get in the choppa Itami!

Whenever a manga reaches the "gore for shock and fun" point, its time to drop.
Are we reading the same story?

In the first chapter, in the first PANELS of this series, when the empire attacks Japan there are drakes RIPPING PEOPLE APART.

This manga has never been shy about gore (at least the artist of the manga), but it has never relied on it.

War is hell, this series has no delusions about it.

This series is good because it has kept an amazing balance between the gore and the shenanigans.

AFAICR, Airborne qualified in the US armed forces require 1-jump-every-3months to maintain jump status and the pay bump. Once you get your wings and airborne tag, you don't lose em even if you let your jump status lapse.
