Wow that was a pretty nice way of explaining physics and alternate realities converging and connecting at a point to create the "gate". Then the effects of said gate on one of the worlds.

Those theories were quite interesting.
Interesting to see some theories popping up here, String theory, parallel multiverses, and higher dimensions. @quagzlor explained it really nicely on how higher dimensions work from a perspective of a being that can only perceive the 2D plane. Since they can't perceive higher dimensions, anything you present to the 2D world will only appear as 2D even if you force a 3D object into that world. In the same vein forcing a 4D or 5D would appear 3D on our perception. If a 4D object that looks like a square partially intersects our 3D world on it's corner we would see a triangle, we would never see what it's full shape is as there's another dimension that we can't perceive. The map explanation was pretty nice on tackling this as well, since the Earth is round but we needed to describe that into a flat surface (e.g. Map) which is why flight routes are curved when drawn on maps to compensate for this.
If I'm getting this right it seems that the fundamentals of magic here is just knowing how to actually manipulate the higher dimensions and interfere with the 3D's laws (in which a higher dimension overrides the 3rd dimension's laws or something similar). I really like this type of explanation of magic, it's like tying magic into a scientific foundation (albeit using unproven theories). And maybe the reason why magic can work on GATE's world as the intercepting dimensions make it possible than on the our world. This would be more likely if Leilei cannot use magic when she's on our world as the intercepting dimensions there might be different.
Also from that string measurement experiment they did, it looked like light was distorted there. I'm pretty sure they actually did put that string on a straight line but since light was distorted, it looked like it was bent. Maybe that black mist is some kind of gravitational anomaly (like some higher forces clashing with the current 3D plane's laws) in the same vein where Leilei explained that by using higher dimensions it can make a string float despite gravity existing.
Though I do somewhat see Rory making glances on the discussion, I wonder what she thinks about this. She is an arbiter of what people are allowed to know and not like Gisselle, seems she's listening carefully on Leilei not actually learning things that isn't allowed in their world. On another note, Leilei plainly announced that she's Itami's wife lol oddly enough there wasn't any blowback from the other harem members xD.

@RyoukoKonpaku I was thinking more that because she has an understanding of these dimensional interactions, she is able to manipulate them, much like how we understand how shadows (2D) works so we can manipulate a 3D object to create a shadow that would not normally exist in its natural state. Like if we rotate a cube to create a diamond shadow or even use a prism to break while light into its multiple wavelengths. This would explain why they are able to not just manipulate physical objects by picking them up but also kinetic energy by creating light and fire out of nothing. If all it takes is this level of understanding then it should work on either side of the gate because both worlds should be similar in dimensional design.. For example, magic didn't disappear when they crossed over. Tuka was able to cast sleep magic on the foreign soldiers and Rory retained her immortality. If magic is truly the manipulation of dimensions outside of the 3rd then this fact means that the mechanisms of dimensions is similar or the same in both sides of the gate. Much like the professor stated before, the fact that both worlds can connect mean they are similar in design, a 3 dimensional world that is connected by the other dimensions, which in the Special Region (SR) studied how to manipulate the other dimensions but ours did not. This fact meant that in their world magic is invented which changed their overall technological and sociological developments to encompass those aspects. Our world on the other hand did not discover that type of connection so we focused purely on how to maximize the capabilities of 3 dimensional physics.
When it comes to the darkness, the way the distortion appears, I cannot tell if it's because of bending light or if it is physically causing the string (space) to bend. They could possibly test this by measuring the string and then using one of those walking distance measuring things and go from the two points. If they are different then we know that the bending is affecting the physical objects but if it is the same length then it is a gravitational pull that is causing a bending of light. Idk how they would determine what it is though since they said they could not remove the darkness from the main mass but it seems to be able to affect the nature of anything that goes into it.

I could sorta understand like, 70% thx for this being a manga (the images helped a lot), if I was reading this as a novel, I would probably just skip de chapter 😂
