Why is he disappointed that 50% can read and 30% of the population can write? Those are bizarrely high numbers considering they weren't aware of such a basic thing as "hey, you need to grow food, to have food to eat."

(I'm actually enjoying the story so far, in case anyone thinks I'm only shitting on it)

More like people in charge of the farms all followed the money at the same time without caring that their neighbor farms were also folloing the money.

Funny, but true. It's like food deficit was not because they were stupid, but because too many were smart enough to know that cotton will rise in price. And at the same time I wonder, if cotton indeed was quite valuable, why they can't afford to import food?

So basically they went for easy money making and YOLO it.

@ZeroR3
Human consume food daily while cotton matures around 4+ months. They can't keep up with the consumption and production. Imported goods have taxes on it jacking up the price.

I find it fascinating how Ludovin and Rudovin are in the same page not even 1 panel apart...

It's already surprising that there's no civil war in the first place, I mean the king didn't even bother to consult with other nobles and advisors with something this big.

@Tatherwood The author is trying to make the MC sound smart by just referring to a term "agriculture revolution" but what does that even mean? It's not explained in detail, we don't know if agriculture will work the same way in this fantasy land as it did in the MC's original world, there could be all sorts of complications but we just know it means, "make agriculture stronk" and it's simply justified with a hand-wave "It can't be helped". What about families who were trying to balance growing and selling enough cash crops to afford food and help pay whatever financial obligations they might have? Suddenly they're told, "Oh, sorry, you're not going to get that money this season, you need to dig that all out and plant potatoes". But "it can't be helped" - it's so infuriating how this one little seemingly innocent line doubly serves to make the MC look oh so smart and at the same time hand-wave away any untold suffering this decision might cause to ordinary people who've done no wrong.

And then on top of that, if you're trying to suddenly up-heave the lives of a swathe of people with no prior record, and then BROADCAST how bad things are and how it will get even worse, they're not going to magically believe you nor will you get off scot-free when you say, "...but don't worry, it will get better! It can't be helped!" Putting aside how the civilians might react to a broadcast like that, your political neighbors aren't going to simply ignore you broadcasting to the entire country the dire state of affairs your country is in. It's laughably idiotic. His "rousing speech" amounted to nothing more than stringing along feel-good slogans together, but of course instead of the country's civilians panicking and trying to flee as soon as possible, they decide to entertain a completely unknown king and leave their hometowns to put on a show for him, meanwhile they and their neighbors might be fucking starving to death from the famine.

@Nessen Okay, now we're talking.
First, agriculture revolution. First I'd think is crop rotation. Possibly didn't exist in that world yet, easy to implement. Also, agricultural improvements (the ones we learn in grade school, I can't be bothered to look for the English names, I studied them in Spanish. But you know what I'm talking about. The "watering drip" thing whatever using pipes, that saves water instead of you having to go manually water all the crops, for example).
How do you call the mix of all of them? "Agricultural revolution". Could the author have explained every single one of them? Yes. Would everyone complain about how he explains every little thing? Also yes.
Can't make everyone happy. I for one was pretty bored when he explained the whole sewage thing, I just skipped those 2 pages.
Could he find a balance? Hopefully, if he's a good writer, which he's not. He's better than most, but not "good". Or rather, not good by the standards you're trying to apply, which I think are geared more towards literature (actual books) than manga. For a manga, I think it's way more than decent.

As for the speech... I want to agree with you, in a way, but I can't. For several reasons.
One: suspension of disbelief. The author wants to create a situation where the MC is a good guy and good leader and people follow him, so he gives a motivational speech, people are moved, things get better. Is it wishful thinking? Yes. Is it realistic? No. That's why it's called "suspension of disbelief".
Second: Have you ever, and I mean, EVER gone to a political speech? Do you know what fallacies are? Politicians use them every other word. I'm going to give you an example, and I SHIT YOU NOT it's true. There was a political rally in the city next to mine. Let's call it "Madrid" (cause capital of Spain, whatever). The politician LITERALLY said "CAUSE THE PEOPLE OF MADRID, ARE THE PEOPLE OF MADRID!!!!!!!".
People lost their shit, hands were clapped raw, panties were wetted and dropped... The politician won the elections.

See, this is something that I've wanted to comment for a long time in MANY mangas. Some of the commenters ARE right. You guys say something like "this makes no sense", but you don't seem to realize that people MAKE NO SENSE! We have flat Earthers! We have anti maskers! WE HAVE ANTI VAXXERS FFS!
Why are you trying to make a faceless mob smart and intelligent (especially when the literacy rate is fucking low, which means they're probably moved by emotions) when irl people are generally NOT smart and intelligent?

@Tatherwood You're missing the forest for the trees. The main point still stands - just throwing out "agriculture revolution" explains NOTHING at all. You are going down into weeds trying to come up with plausible interpretations of what the MC could mean - all in a conveniently favorable light for the MC - when at the end of the day we really don't know because it's never shown to us and could just as easily have negative consequences. This could also show the MC to be a simplistic dolt - which would also create an obstacle for the MC to overcome, generating potentially good storytelling. Right now there is no obstacle, it's just "me make agriculture stronk!"

I'm not talking about literacy rates or emotional appeals. Suspension of disbelief is also not a convenient tool that the author demands from his readers - it's something he prays the readers will allow him. I'm talking about average, working-age adults in a medieval fantasy setting who have to make a living for themselves not even being the least bit skeptical of a completely unknown stranger from another world telling them what's what. You don't need to be a genius to smell bullshit.

P.S. My body my choice, are you gonna put a gun to my head to make me take vaccines? Have you also heard the UK is ironing out a literal "freedom pass" to "allow" their people to move about freely if they test negative for corona twice a week? The slippery slope is real.

That guy at the end that say, "Your majesty, this fuckers are the ones who stood out the most" is Marcus, the "lost" chancellor, right? Or his doppelgänger, because they look the same...
