Hey, it's good to meet you; I'm so thrilled with the work you do. As I said in the afterword, I didn't intend to interfere with anyone else's efforts; I too love this story and wanted to get it into English as soon as possible for others to enjoy. Due to the general sense of dourness with regards to MTL that seems to have arisen in the comments, I wanted to elucidate that I did make certain alterations to convey what I understood to be the general intent of each message. Google Translate certainly didn't use the phrase "saving my bacon" on page 20 lol.
A lot of translation for An's dialogue was done with the perspective of how a non-native English speaker may forego some of the minor rules of English that wouldn't necessarily prevent mutual understanding, such as pluralizing certain words unnecessarily, as well as my personal experience with hearing how native Vietnamese-speakers emphasize certain words when speaking English. With An at an N2 level of Japanese, this may have been too ungenerous, but I did use the wording that I did to convey that she does not speak Miyoko's language natively.
This is all to say that I hope that I haven't sullied the translation efforts. I did try my best to effectively communicate what I understood to be the emotional resonance of each character, but if there are distinct errors, please let me know, if only for my personal edification. If it would be better to discuss such things in private message, so as to not disrupt this forum environment, let us do that instead. I thoroughly enjoyed working on this (though perhaps to the great chagrin of other commenters I've seen in this thread ._. (I'm sorry, I meant no harm!)) and would happily continue to do so if it be for the better utility of the other, more experienced translators. Be that as it may, I will defer as necessary, as I also want the best experience for other readers.
Again, I thank you for the work you do! Have a good day!
