As far as I recall:
Hinger was an old slave that helped Reiji when he was a slave.
He died during the slave revolt. His dying wish was to pass a final message and his expensive teeth to Lulusha, his granddaughter.
Reiji worked for the count on the condition that the count would search for Lulusha.
Towards the end of the last arc, we learnt that Emma was Lulusha's mother/Hinger's daughter and that she went to lev.
So the whole reason the gang headed to Lev was to find Lulusha
