agreed, 義母 or anything with the word 義 on it is simply means 'not blood related', so it can be a mother-in-law, foster mother, or stepmother. In this case it would be stepmother as you said.

Great first chapter and I'm definitely looking forward to more. This artist draws starving/suffering people in a harrowing way that you don't normally see in these kind of stories and I'm pretty impressed by that.

I have to admit to being slightly obsessed with the bird-contract the duke now has on his shoulder. It wasn't there in the precognitive dream even though that was a future event; I wonder what the rules are that make the bird visible (and emoting)?

I get that it's popular thematically (I have a vast number that I follow myself), but other series at least pay some cursory lip service to establish the concept of the villainess backstory for the lead. There isn't any of that here.

The villainess term doesn't describe Sofia, it describes Sofia's stepdaughter Rebecca.

As the story is setup now, it is about Sofia trying to prevent Rebecca's transformation into a villainess.

I think you're right, I'll see if I can change it.
After rereading my translation a few times there are some additional things I wanted to change as well... Like "Goodness, what am I doing?" to something along the lines of "Oh no! Did I startle her!?".
The colour-page as well "I will tend to it with great care" to "I will tend to them with great care"

Also, I was wondering about the English translation of the family Bernhardt. The romanji version was Berenharudo I believe. So a more direct translation would be Bellenhardt or Bellenheart. I think Bernhardt is what they were going for (since the name actually exists), but I'm not sure if it's what suits best. What do you guys think?

I´ve recently learned that many of those long titles are because on the sites where the original light novels are published the readers just see the title with no tags or summaries, unless they click on it. So authors game the system by macking the title itself the summary.
