I was wondering why they were focusing so much on this character that I thought was just a two-bit Koito, but it was short, to the point, and it neatly tied up all of the 7th division backstories with Tsurumi's philosophy about war and leadership.

Did Tsurumi plan this, or was this one actually just an accident? It doesn't seem worth it for him to get demoted just to get Usami on his side, but that one panel where he talks about being far from central command makes it seem like he actually wanted that. His surprise at Usami going berserk seemed genuine though, but he's clearly a good actor.

Now I'm starting to believes the guesses people made earlier that Koito has been secretly wavering in his loyalty to Tsurumi since he learned the truth from Ogata. Usami seemed like a Koito knockoff, but now he looks like he could be a foil to Koito, since Koito's admiration for Tsurumi had a legitimate basis, but turned out to be an elaborate lie, while Usami's is just a sociopathic obsession.

I like how the author keeps trying to throw readers off and make this group of mentally unstable killers seem likeable. They're so deranged that comedy actually suits them.

@spurgleburgle The thing with Usami i have almost certainty that it was spontaneous, he displeasure with the central command was already going i can surmise it too, but Usami first kill was to him i think the point where he came to that conclusion about love and how he could find loyal soldiers or better saying make them.

I thought Usami was just another Koito, but were Koito is fundamentally a good person Usami is completely deranged.

I remember everyone calling Ogata a psychopath earlier on in the story.
Nah. Usami is a psychopath. Ogata is something else entirely.

God the speed at which every character in this manga can go from ruthless, murderous monsters to absolute gremlins is astounding and I love it
