The story is still too black and white for my taste so I am glad they are finally starting to suffer casualties. Hopefully the Empire will start to adapt and fight back. So far it was just an overpowered one-sided slaughter. Now it's starting to become a proper war where there's no good guys with invincible plot protection, at least a tiny bit.

Agreed. I want greys instead of "objectively evil bad guys are slaughtered wholesale by objectively good guys and we all laugh at the end!". It makes for a far better story that way.

That'll probably get it rolling, I wouldn't know what GD series has chapters ready in advance or not, but it'd probably make it happen.

I'm assuming he does not know what they did, only that they somehow destroyed everything with harpies.
That is still revealing too much, but it is less idiotic than revealing it is just something easy to steal.

But you didn't consider the merchant mentioned he came from some city which would have been much farther away, maybe several days distance from some frontline fort and he'd already be on his way before the fort fell, so how could he know the frontline forts were conquered? And you didn't consider that each of the forts were within a day or two of each other, the temporary fort Kosuke erected was within a day's walk from them and they fell within a few days. Information don't travel fast in medieval socities. Even worse, you didn't even consider that they killed the messengers they sent to other forts to warn and ask for reinforcement, so nobody outside got the news the forts already fell, much less a merchant midway in his journey.

TLDR: Liberation army killed all messengers leaving the forts, no news flow out, no way in hell the Merchant would have known the forts already fell, not his logistical blunder.

ofc, war without casualties in both sides kinda a boring story. At least kills some grunt.

But, for liberation war, frontal assault is totally stupid strategy and it indicates the characters are so dumb about art of war.

In liberation war, the liberator side always have inferior armies in both quantity and weaponry. The best option for them is guerilla because every single life is very precious and a non-renewable resource.
Just because they have good weapon, doesn't mean they can charge in the daylight even for rush attack because frontal assault will always take casualties starting from noobs private.

If they make another mistakes, who knows if the Holy Kingdom ace armies can wipe 'em for good even if they can guerilla perfectly.
