Short version: urban fighting is a nightmare, so we'll be setting defensive lines facing the places with the least cover available while we have garrison secondary units at yelling distance and the HQ at the rear just in case.Meat is back on the menu boys.
Take your glasses out, it's once again time to read tiny text on maps and pretent we understand anything about military planning before nodding deeply and moving on to the next page.
This man is knowledgable and kind enough to try and explain things to dummies like me on a pseudonymous forum!Short version: urban fighting is a nightmare, so we'll be setting defensive lines facing the places with the least cover available while we have garrison secondary units at yelling distance and the HQ at the rear just in case.
Funny they didn't set up anything on the bridges themselves to negate them or specifying fighting retreat routes, planning attrition and all. But if they expect armor, it's a bit more understandable.
I don't understand military planning that much, but enough to scream through the screen at the idiot who suggested an offensive through the bridges "Are you insane?!".
Oh, you're right about there is no obstacle, and when the idea of blowing up the bridge come up, it was cut by the idiot, and never addressed.Short version: urban fighting is a nightmare, so we'll be setting defensive lines facing the places with the least cover available while we have garrison secondary units at yelling distance and the HQ at the rear just in case.

Still, defending bridge in the city is still advantageous. Is like we know where they're coming. The river act like there's an invisible wall we can't cross but we can shoot. It is like predetermined killbox. All you have to do is shooting at the bridge even with the outdated weaponry it's still effective.Oh, you're right about there is no obstacle, and when the idea of blowing up the bridge come up, it was cut by the idiot, and never addressed.
If later there's a stupid reason for letting that bridge up, the soldiers are not going to be happy to that.
Defending a bridge like Benkei, and The Berserker of Stamford Bridge is a romanticized story, young man. Search for your medals in school sport festival.
He, Kannahibi, didn't suggest destroying the bridges, he suggested charging though the bridges to the other side (the other officer was who suggested it), which even with numbers is suicidal and dumb.Oh, you're right about there is no obstacle, and when the idea of blowing up the bridge come up, it was cut by the idiot, and never addressed.
The very reason I could think of blowing them up is that the enemy has tanks/IFVs and they're going to cross with them. But even then, IF they choose to cross they would potentially face building after building of soldiers with anti-armor weapons. So if they have the tanks, it would be better to use their superior range to shell the opposite riverbank from safety and send the infantry later than risk a panzerfaust to the face at point-blank.If later there's a stupid reason for letting that bridge up, the soldiers are not going to be happy to that.
It depends on what they're defending it with, what the enemy is sending against you, and the era. Sure, when you only have to fear iron blades and pointy sticks, defending a bridge with a few men is feasible with the proper tactics and individual power, but when it's tanks or heavy cavalry what they send...Defending a bridge like Benkei, and The Berserker of Stamford Bridge is a romanticized story, young man.
