Depends on how the author want priest's personal choice to be, some options include:

1. The place is trapped with the spirit killing magic thing - priest is acting as he's ordered, prioritizing his family over his own self. (doubtful)

2. He lured them here because there's incriminating evidence hidden in here - he's willing to die to unveil the scheme, because the target is Rachel/Kuro
In which case there might be other church's spies around back in orphanage, that's why the priest chose this isolated location to unveil things
Depend on how....suicidal he's feeling, him being creepy yandere this chapter might also be a facade so that Rachel won't feel guilty over his death.
