There is a villain here that's pointlessly setting up his own downfall.
Falne was discarded, exiled to a remote region across a wasteland. Sending assassins after him was needless overkill.
The only problem was the "saintess" being enamored with him, but that could be easily solved. She's shallow and stupid, so introduce her to other men. By the time she gets recognized as an official saintess, she will be too busy and distracted to care about that one guy she briefly met.
Instead of just waiting a few days for the man to be out of the picture peacefully, he had to got for violence for literally no reason other than petty resentment. He doesn't know that he's going to get resentment back from the MC of this story, but even without this he jeopardized his entire future with a crime entirely unrelated to his main goal.
(Note that I'm not criticizing the story. Self-destructing villains are fine in my book.)
It seems like we're now getting into the revenge part of the story.
Someone has to pay for killing the horse.🐴
