Love the new girls.

As for the "simple man", you're clearly of the lowest common denominator. Sod off.

@Ettelblack It just surprises me that people are so negative about trans characters that they are even ready to drop silly smut manga because of it. That being said, the same people were perfectly fine with any problematic content with queer women here lol.

I feel very conflicted that even such a manga would adapted those american far left terms. Why not just stick with your guns like always? Traps/ Otokonoko etc used to be a thing. Using the propaganda language of a pseudo religious and radical cult will normalize them and give theman air of credibility. And what happened to the effin tournement?

Thanks for the translation and the detailed notes!

Sounds to me like Aikido is pretty much the japanese equivalent to american show wrestling, but with focus on spirituality instead of entertainment.

Also, this is the first time I have seen a trans person being mentioned this openly in a manga outside of the usual futa/magical transformation/etc tropes. Or at least the first time I have seen hormone therapy and corresponding accurate(?) body transformations being shown.

I think it is fascinating what an effect hormones can have on ones body. I used to wince at the thought of how regular intake of hormones change you physically and psychically, like how steroids used by body builders have all sorts of weird unwanted side effects. Then I learned that hundreds of millions of women do it voluntarily just so they don't get pregnant..

Personally, I would have just transliterated "okama" since there is so much cultural stuff associated with it.

@Rugid

Thank you, fixed!

@Maiorem Thank you for this article, it's very informative. I was pretty paralyzed with what term to use. I was considering using something much meaner but I didn't want to offput certain readers. I figured "crossdresser" was relatively neutral while still conveying Sanada's disgust. You're right, maybe Okama would have been most efficient. I would have written a note about it regardless, ahahah.

Addendum: I just rembered what the whole "Wrestle with your tits out/only in a mawashi" stuff reminded me of: The treatment of exposed breasts on TV and most recently also Twitch!

They had female cosplayers doing body painting of their tits on there in the Arts category, which were reaaaaal popular. There were clips of them painting over their nipples and stimulating them with a brush to the point they would start leaking milk.

Then Twitch banned the exposure of all nipples. Then they reversed the ban for male nipples (I think).

Nowadays I have no fucking clue what is happening over at Twitch anymore, cause they are banning emotes and words left and right, but I also rarely watch streams and never chat, so whatever.

But this got me curious of how Twitch or sumo wrestling would treat the breasts of anyone transitioning...

@Iskarioth

Drag queen/cross dresser: guy that sees himself as a guy, dresses in female clothes

Trap: guy that sees himself as a guy, dresses in female clothes, confuses others

Trans (MTF): guy that sees himself as a girl, dresses as a girl, usually has hormone therapy etc., referred to as girl etc.

Not really “far left,” considering trans ppl are scientifically studied etc (apparently, trans ppl usually have the brain patterns of the gender they see themselves as)

@asdasdzxczxc and other ppl, I don’t really get. Like, it’s a fucking yuri smut manga, it’s inherently lgbtq. Like, getting upset when an lgbtq character that doesn’t pander to them is introduced, but okay with fucking dolphin fucking

@Odoritomaki Okama is good if you need to express someone's annoyance and homophobic attitude. This is literally the Japanese version of the word "fag". But in a neutral sense, such characters are called otokonoko. At least until she completed the transition and became an actual trans female.

@Iskarioth Are you talking about the term MtF? Well, Rui is quite modern in his vocabulary, so I don't see much of a problem. Even Japanese wikipedia refers to the character as MtF, if that's that important.

@FruitSlice I don't think this should worry you much after Rui previously argued that the physical difference between a man and a woman depends only on skill level, not to mention other little things. This manga portrays martial arts well, but it still falls within the boundaries of the genre's stereotypes.

@Thelilwitch I wouldn't call it "LGBTQ" considering how all the queer characters here are portrayed as either horny weirdo or just weirdo (I don’t understand why queer folks like to attribute any ecchi yuri to LGBTQ-friendly content so much), not to mention a bunch of ridiculously homophobic or sexist prejudices, but yeah, being an annoyed by trans character after a bunch of silly lesbian action, was pretty funny.

@superoniichan yeah, that’s true. U read so many Yuri manga and are like “this was written by a straight dude.”

But at the very least, it’s about lesbians, and people reading it have to be aware of that, even if it’s an inaccurate portrayal.

Like, these dudes are busting nuts to terrible portrayals of lesbians, then get upset when the author introduces a trans character, or does literally anything that isn’t pandering to them

@Thelilwitch You may not realize it but you are using politicized language, like for instance LBTQ. That's a weaponized term. It was invtented in a divide and conquer way of thinking that is pitting groups and identities against each other. It uses homosexuals and trans people as pawns, as weapons. Not only do they have individual issues, they aren't inherently connected yet were basically drafted into an political movement without their consent. What else but evil would you call it to use, abuse, indoctrinate and weaponize troubled and emotionally unstable young people ( mostly in the case of trans people) for such a cause?
It's like a hollowed out cell used as trojan horse to carry a virus composed of elements of facism, socialism, religion and authoritarian extremism. This poisoned culture trickles down from America and seeps into the rest of the world. Infused into media, especially games, movies comics etc. The pseudo science you quoted of a female brain and such is also their doing. Therer's no cricital questioning, no actually scientific work, just made-up terms. Science still understands very little about the human brain, yet those people make tall, unrefutable claims that are protected by something akin to heresy laws. The american culture war is destroying their country from within and we would do well to stay as far away from all of that as possible.

@Thelilwitch In fact, this manga is not even marketed as yuri. It has significant yuri content due to Misora's bisexuality and the use of heaps of lesbian action as loopholes for random sex, but it's still just one element in the overall smut manga.
In general, we can argue for a long time about representation and related things, but personally, I have always found it extremely hypocritical and ridiculous to have an attitude like "this queer stuff does not make me gay and looks hot, so I love it, but that is gay trash and I will ignore it, because I'm a healthy straight guy". Reminds me of the yuri fans in my country, many of whom initially defend yuri content with LGBTQ-friendly arguments, but then say it's okay for them to hate BL because "they're straight".
Such people can pretend to be allies for a long time, but in fact they just use beautiful words for their fap on hot lesbians and fantasies about it.

@SuperOniichan I see many women who are straight and like BL but won't read yuri. Seems natural to me. Of course hating BL as a straight man is paradox but enjoying yuri while having no interest in BL is pretty reasonable.

@iskarioth I’m literally studying biology, as an American studying to move to Japan, tho that’s completely beside the point, I know.

Regardless of whatever, I don’t really care, I’m not here to argue with ppl lmao. But, srs, that’s some weird thinking my guy.

This is literally a comment section about hating on an character being trans, in a smut manga filled with lesbian scenes and fucking ant-eater and dolphin sex, in a genre filled with traps, futa, and some trans. Like, this is the weirdest place to draw a line.

@Iskarioth It's okay as long as you don't try to pretend to be an LGBTQ advocate while defending yuri. I always respect people who speak directly about their tastes or interests instead of being shitty hypocrites.

@Thelilwitch Not to mention, her transsexuality here is literally just a silly excuse for her futa and otokonoko moe. It's like complaining about lesbian propaganda in yuri hentai lol.
