Bro, how hard is it to use context clues? She doesnāt want him seeing the outfit because heās the one she feels most self conscious around. Did you forget the entire relationship dynamic of these two people who clearly have a crush on each other?
Context clues...? Serious, bro? Yeah, I understand that she's more self-conscious around him. I'm not disputing that. What I'm questioning is why the maid outfit apparently warrants
that level of reaction from him when they've already had much more embarrassing and intimate situations together. Like, the time he accidentally saw her changing in the infirmary and saw her in just her bra? Or the time he stood in front of her so the others wouldn't see her "undergarments", only for her to realize that what she thought was a pair of shorts was actually just underwear and that she'd been standing right in front of him like that? I genuinely don't understand how a maid outfit is somehow so much more overwhelming than those situations, but okay.
And honestly, I can admit that I might be more sensitive to this because of other romance manga I've been reading lately, so maybe I'm exaggerating how much this bothers me. But that doesn't change the fact that the two of them have already had moments that were arguably much more embarrassing than this without Kurose reacting like he was witnessing the end of the world. That's why I think this was a missed opportunity. Instead of having him literally pass out for several minutes because she's "stunning" in a maid outfit, the author could have called back to their earlier date, where he couldn't bring himself to tell her she was cute and ended up saying she was cool instead, remember that context? He could have simply told her how cute she looked this time. That would've been funny
and actually reinforced their romantic progression, without him FAINTING.
Instead, the joke is basically that she's so overwhelmingly beautiful that, the other two girls, and even the nurse are briefly knocked out by it, while Kurose gets the most ridiculous reaction of all and is apparently out for minutes. And what's even "funnier" is that the actual pervert who was openly staring at her chest doesn't seem to suffer the same fate.
So yeah, maybe I'm overreacting because of other series I've been reading, but I still think it's a wasted opportunity. I don't mind the maid outfit or the fanservice itself. I mind that the manga had a perfect setup to turn it into another cute moment between the two leads, and instead chose to prioritize the gag.
