I think that Ippo will probably make a comeback... It's just that he dicks around in his private life & is lacks too much decisiveness, in his life, work, even Boxing. He still somehow feels like there's something he could have done, but because he's too complacent he just says "I'm done & fine with it" when he isn't; If he lacks that drive of pulling together even if he were to be punch drunk there's no way he could stand on the World Championship ring. Also it serves for Ippo & Kumi's relationship to move forward, how many goddamned years have go by and they still aren't "something more"? Ippo must first truly decide and take a step forward in what they actually are & Kumi must realize that Boxing isn't something she should shun off Ippo's life. It is a part of him & she should accept it as most comprehensive as it is; she is looking out for what's best for Ippo instead of what makes him happy, and until she realizes it or Ippo makes her understand that relationship has no future.

Kumi you actually are the greediest character on this series, of course you have been chasing this man for a while so this must feel like a golden opportunity, but she should really try to change her approach just advancing when he is on his lowest moments is not right, plus other boxers have girlfriends if she is so thirsty she should have researched how they did it by now.

All this Kumi hate is so fucking stupid.

How would you feel if the person you were in love with kept wanting to go out and get their ass kicked all the time and risking their life? Now multiply that by ten when you realize that it’s not just the person you’re in love with that’s doing this, but your brother who is your only living family left also does this. Then multiply that by another ten when you find out that they were one punch away from being punch drunk. Then multiply that by another ten everytime the person seems like they might start to try boxing again.

She is perfectly within her rights to feel the way she does. She’s not actively forcing him to stay away from boxing. She reminds him of the dangers of it and how close he was to permanent brain damage last time. Her feelings of wanting Ippo to not be near boxing ever again is completely valid. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ippo’s mom secretly feels the same way.
