While this is quite off-topic for the site it is in the general forum, and I think it would be a crime not to mention the incredible achievement that took place on this day all those years ago.

Moon trivia? Well then:
Neil Armstrong is known to have said: "Good luck, Mr. Gorsky!" while walking on the moon but that's really only an urban legend.
For those who don't know: When Armstrong was a child, according to the legend he heard the wife of his neighbor Mr. Gorsky complain that he wanted to do o**l s*x (censorship for underage readers) and she said that she only would do so if the neighbor's boy, i.e. Neil Armstrong, would take a walk on the moon one day. Armstrong himself was said to be very surprised when he first heard this story decades after his flight to the moon.

And another fun fact: When the moon first came to be it was through the impact of some Mars-sized early planet with the early earth, the resulting debris from the collision subsequently forming the trabant we know.

Last fun fact: The farther you go back in earth history, the bigger the moon stood in the sky. That is because it was still closer to earth than today. Not surprising when remembering it's origin mentioned above.

Another fun fact: The moon is tidally locked with the Earth, which means only one side of the Moon's surface is ever visible from here. The other side of the moon, known as the far side of the moon, can never be seen from Earth's surface. We can only know what the far side of the moon looks like because we sent space probes and astronauts around the backside.

Note that people often confuse the terms "far side" with "dark side"! The far side of the moon is the side of the moon that we never see from Earth. The dark side of the moon is just the part of the moon where it happens to be night. Depending on where the moon is in its orbit, either the near side or the far side could be dark at any moment in time. If you were standing on the moon's surface, night would last about 2 weeks.
