"Have i really become more mature"

No. You were pretty autistic then and still pretty autistic now. Considering last chapter you tried to tie in the reason of your life's profession back to someone you've last seen 17 years ago after dating for like 3 months. Not to mention the refusal to ask the most basic as fuck questions about your guests.

I do hope they stick with the "he's not the father" plot.

I mean, imagine if they went "oh, the daughter is actually X years, she's just short and had to miss a few years of school because of Y reason, she's actually MC daughter and mother left because she didn't want to burden MC with a baby" that would be a shit twist
That would be welcomed, if it was kept as a mystery, or not brought attention to immediately and then obfuscated with romantic/homely scenes.

Thanks for the chapter!

I am guessing the daughter is the MC's daughter and she broke off things since neither were prepared to marry and settle so she just returned to her family. At least it would be an easy way to make her more sympathetic.
Nope, all the way in Chapter 3 it was said fairly outloud Minori isn't his daughter. Decided to reread this manga quickly cause it's fluffy and nice.

Lying about her age isn't out the question to be honest. The issue becomes, why? But then again, that the entire motivating factor for this series, if it was just cuteness it would get nowhere as much attention.

I don’t say this to rag on the mangaka but the more I read this the more it feels that they not only have very little romantic experience, but very little interaction (on a friendship level) with other adults as well. (In a similar vein to the modern persona creators talking about how they have never really had relationships with women)

like every time I feel myself getting genuinely annoyed with the characters here I remember that this manga started out with a woman in her mid thirties and her daughter attempting to sneak into his house through his backyard to set up a living arrangement and I just temper my expectations. Like I just…….do adults actually act and talk and think like this? 😭😭 it just feels too tropey and reliant on the uncertainty of cliches in high school romance when these are grown ass adults. yes, this is ultimately a lighthearted SOL and yes real life can get this messy but It Gets To A Point. I don’t think Kyou is like. a golddigger or shameless or greedy or a bitch but she just feels SO outlandishly incompetent for someone of her age and status most of the time, like @/mdqp I am mostly just reading this to see where it goes but idk if I’ll stick around if it keeps insisting on this 🧍‍♀️

I hope the situation is she is actually MC's bio child and outside factors forced her to breakup with him. Mostlikely parents not wanting her to marry someone who's not planning for a more standard career specially after finding out she was pregnant. As for the age of the kid not aligning with the time of their breakup, couldve easily lied about it, not like she hasn't lied about anything else.

My preferred headcanon is that she broke up with him because of his trust issues and hard to get close to, but didn't realize that she was pregnant until later. Then she got flustered and gave birth outside of institutions so her daughter didn't get registered at birth, so she didn't get registered until a couple of years later or something. It would fit her personality of being ditsy and avoiding the problem until they got out of hand.
Though other things are fine too, but this is probably the story I'd like the best, and would explain why daughter is so similar to him both appearence and personality wise.
Daughter actually being his sister is a bit lame and cliche. Her dad being similar to MC is boring, and probably a one night stand or something since they don't seem to have any contact with him.
The story is what the author wants to tell though, so I'm probably fine with fluff anyways.

My bet for the break up is that she had to move for some reason like family problems, and wouldn't have time for relationships in the new place, and that was the reason for the 17 years without contact

problem with that is that her age doesn't line up. he had thought about it as a possibility. so unless they lied about her age, i dont see it being the case.

EDIT: got me thinking about what is different with this one over all the other "surprise family" mangas, and it's this absolute level of secrecy that they've been keeping about the father, and the near-zero romance angle. So we're left asking questions instead of just reading, and doing so with very low level of investment into their happiness.

Telling us that "no, it's absolutely not the MC" is worse. Okay. Then who is it? They're dead and no one good, so she wants him forgotten and not even a memory? Great, then that means that she hooked up with an A-hole who died.
Speak for yourself. I've never once cared who the father was, because it doesn't matter. "Dad" probably fucked off really early as the girl doesn't seem to have any attachment to him. Stuff like this happens sometimes. Some people are really nice when things are fun and easy, but become assholes when things stop being convenient. She's clearly moved on, so maybe y'all should too

The trio's interactions are cute/funny and are the main reason I'm reading. The underlining mystery is just an extra bit of flavoring. A little bitter in an otherwise very sweet snack

Considering we haven't heard anything about him so far, most likely he's out of the picture regardless.
The mystery is there to keep people interested. It's basically a hook. Gotta need to have some suspension of disbelief for him not having at least asked about it once, but he's really non-confronting and avoidant so it adds up I guess.

It's easy going around that, my suspicion if author goes that route is that she gave birth outside of a hospital and never registered her until she was a couple of years old or something. Not that if I know if that's even possible in Japan, but a story is a story.

I am quote replying to you because I'm starting to think you're fucking calling it, and I want to be on record as calling it too, as well as to bookmark exactly when we called it.
