Sweet and fluffy and simple. And the MC being mature and making no mention of what was done while she was drunk, good man.

Aah... So the idea is actually deep down in her head, she really just held herself back, huh... :meguu:

You mean Kyou? It's been a thing for effectively the entire story, yeah.

She's only been "holding herself back" in the current timeline of narrative because she was convinced she had to prioritize Minori in every facet of both of their lives. Which, understandable; she was a single mother for the entirety of Minori's life up to the point they showed up on Takaharu's doorstep, and even if she had hoped that Takaharu would provide a temporary place for them to stay while she figured out next steps, there really was no telling whether it would work out at all, much less long-term like this.

But even before, she was similar. She had always loved Takaharu; they split in the first place because her own life fell apart, and Takaharu--at the time--was too involved & absorbed in his own life and his nascent art career to really be there for her. She never asked him, of course...but, this is kinda Kyou's personality in a nutshell. And so she took the first "self-sacrificial" action of the story in breaking up with him to not put any of her problems on his plate.
Her coming back to him now was because he had given her that standing offer 17 years prior, but also because she still loves him, in some fashion. She just hasn't squared that they're allowed to "pick back up" where things were left before, because she's probably just unsure of and afraid of the possibility that Takaharu is only doing this out of obligation, or because he feels indebted, or some other "have to and not want to" reason. We know that he's still pining for her, and beating himself up in a very similar fashion, and also wants to continue a relationship with her. They're just both not at the point where they feel they can voice these things aloud, yet.

But fortunately, this making-up with Minori was a big hurdle removed for Kyou's situation. Knowing that Minori will in fact be okay, and is looking forward, means that Kyou will hopefully start internalizing that she doesn't need to put her own life on pause for the sake of her daughter--and that they're both allowed to push forward in life and pursue actual happiness and fulfillment.
The next step will be Takaharu coming to the same conclusion. He's got a couple people in his life who can help--his sister and his friend Azuma--and both have spoken to him in some capacity about a life & future with Kyou (and Minori). But he's not yet absolved his guilt about the past at this time, and will need more narrative space to do so before he can start moving toward that shared future.
I do think Kyou will get there before him, and her being earnest and heartfelt and honest should provide a lot to push Takaharu toward forgiving himself enough to unpause his life and pursue her once more.

Though I believe that ultimately it will be Minori herself who fully 'bridges the gap', and succeeds in pushing her Mom and (soon-to-be) Dad together in full. She's the connecting character between them, as the one who represents Kyou's reservations, and a "missing piece" in Takaharu's life that could help bring him out of himself and toward an active parental role.

I don't see it happening just yet, but the groundwork's been laid, and steps are being taken, at least.

I don't know how normal it is to actually use it that way but at the very least it's valid, it's also pretty common on anime for wives to refer to their husband in this way.
Yeah it is context based. I guess I didn't think about this context being them together given her daughter is calling him papa. Tho it would still be weird to use the romanji for it instead of just "dear". 貴方 is usually a pretty big nono unless its husband and wife.

I was, while reading the chapter I was thinking this was a pretty sweet chapter and then remembered the comments section, made me chuckle a bit to remember those times so I made that comment thinking about that.

I thought putting "smh my head" would make it clear I wasn't serious.
Yeah that was what gave it away for me that it was most likely satire. Just some people will unironically talk like that, so you can't be too sure.

Changed my dumb to a thumb.

That is on me, the "smh my head" is hint enough.

Unfortunately there are more than a few people who've historically shown up here spouting that sentiment unironically, though people do tend to take things very much at face value these days, especially online where tone is harder to parse.

They're practically already family.

Imagine them explaining their relationship to an outsider. They have mutual attraction, They've kissed, they live together, and they hardly stopped just short of penetration after a little bit of alcohol.

Nice, the daughter is trying to put some sense in the mother about her self sacrifice habit, hope someone can do the same to MC about his problems

... maybe the rugby boy, it would be funny watch the 2 kids help the adult couple figure their problems out.

Just short of penetration? What kind of doujin version of that chapter were you reading and where can I find it? :smugnako:

I seriously thought "smh my head" was enough, now I know it's not, probably had to make some sort comment about how she's such an "awful" mother for caring about her daughter's future, but I wanted something shorter since it was just a joke.

It is weird to keep it as romanji instead of translating, but some people like keeping it that way, bit similar to using "senpai" instead of "upperclassmen", "senior" or "superior", I like in some cases but find it weird in others.

貴方 in particular I like cause it has a sense of closeness that I don't get from "darling" or "dear", it's word that might be nearly offensive in any other context. Since it plainly means "you", I initially thought of it like "the only you" or like "You", or the "you" that matters the most in my world. Which is only my own perspective and I doubt that makes it a good style, but it's my personal reason for liking it.

Still, in this case I do think it's better to use the proper translation instead of just using romanji, I just like imagining a character saying 貴方, and reading "anata" helps with that. An example where I think just using romanji would be better is "senpai" on spanish TLs, afaik we don't really have a good word such as "upperclassmen" or "senior", anything that fits requires more than one word and just becomes overly wordy and unnatural.

I honestly don't know what the sweet spot is these days where people see something and go "yeah, that's gotta be sarcasm". I know '/s' exists and it would be great if that wasn't 100% necessary every single time, but.

Goes to show that people with dumb opinions and/or no chill have ruined the Internet for everyone, I guess.
