considering how bad ppl were talking about this anime (animation and stuff, not the story) i doubt it will get a second season so the story will probably not going to reach this point in the anime version, i dropped after 2 or 3 episodes and im following just the manga.
imagine a second season without the MC on it what a disaster it would be in audience views
He would be absent for an episode or 2.
But this battle is completely different from what we're accustomed to in Failure Frame, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Unironically, the classmate who has the most interesting backstory is Oyamada. An entire book could be written about this jerk and I would enjoy reading it XD
What the...dude, you must be joking right? Haha good one, sure he got a special chapter dedicated solely to him in chapter 300. I know it is "carefully" written to build up the story and tension, so the punchline can be meaningful that Oyamada character is beyond help. Which I bet, most people guarantee to skip this if it ever adapted to manga (I can imagine full of rage comments will flooded the comment section).

His backstory explains alot of why he behaves like that in the series.
He's not the only one, Touka and Asagi also have a backstory that explains a lot.

This battle is both silly and ridiculous, hope they don't do this ''Actually, the real threat wasn't me but...''. It diminishes the importance of each enemy and makes the heroes feel like a musou game protagonist.

Actually, what is really going to happen is now that they showed the mc finally showing up to the battle they are going pan over to the other hero's group that is with the Goddess...How much you wanna bet...?

The script is good. We could not have hoped for a more hopeless situation. And now the rescue team is coming.
Thanks the translation.

100 pages that happen much faster because you don't have to wait.
Even faster because it's really too simple to skim or completely skip over a big chunk of the worthless parts you don't care about and that you know won't matter in the end.
I've learned that the hard way from reading so many novels, it's not worth it to slog through the boring parts, it's an art to know how to skim without missing details that actually matter in the end.

And to be honest, it's VERY rare for side stories/stuff from sides other than the protagonist to truly matter in the end. They almost never add anything worthwhile since only the protagonist's story actually matter in the end. If the author does it right, they can be fun to read, but in so many of these types of stories, these things end up being just filler that might add a select few details that could be useful to know. Not as if people reading this care about their situation in the end, we just want the mc to show off, a little build up can be beneficial for a big climax but they often take it too far.

In this case it's one where it's important to follow the "side stories".
One of the reasons being that Touka has yet to meet Vicius, so you can't see her outside of this "side stories".
And the other reasons is that the author wrote the secondary characters in a way that they could be the main characters of their own Light Novel.
