Choosing retreat when things aren’t going well (among other rational decisions) is one of the reason why I keep reading this series.

I think the implication is just that his job has a higher ceiling than others, and is meant to compete in more difficult modes, but isn't itself instantly there. Like he says here, he would naturally learn Extra Skills at level 60, so he probably learns Hell skills at an even higher level. But this is implying the possibility to temporarily unlock those abilities before naturally learning them.

Basically, his job is a late-game one, which pays off a harder starting experience with being able to meet challenges later on when it scales better than other jobs. Since online games are typically balanced around endgame, it's considered a better job than others because it's better at endgame, but they're not there yet.

Even if that's the case the experience curve is way way too high. Yes I get that the curve was intentionally set to be ridiculously high, but he just chewed thrue an army of millions of high level demonic beasts and their demon commanders.

The game is rigged. There are no trigger events to slow the progression of the war and there isn't enough mobs in the enemy army to achieve the needed level to defeat the sub-boss.
